when i'm feeling down, i'd rather listen to something i relate to
instead of something upbeat and "forcing"
share some of the most heartbreaking tunes you've got
here's my strictly sad music playlist, hope someone finds something
they dig.

I'm not into very sad material myself, but I have found a few good ones, such as the following..
Blur - No Distance Left To Run
The album (13) was made after Albarn broke up with his girlfriend, so this song has very relatable lyrics...
https://open.spotify.com/track/0SaRvx9eYudSCQYNjuCQKX
Sigur Rós - All Alright
Something from Iceland. Think it's the only song from their discography that's in English...? Very slowpace, very regretting what he had done. Begging forgiveness, but feeling like they don't deserve it.

Robbie Williams - The Postcard
The lyrics are a story of a distant, but still lovely friend no longer there. Robbie Williams makes darn beautiful songs lyrics-wise.
https://open.spotify.com/track/68iIunUJ4LxehWvZ2K9AqH
Another one of his is Nan's Song. It's a very beautiful one in my opinion.... Can't relate to those lyrics myself, thank..god for that, otherwise I wouldn't be able to hear that.
This song has hidden tracks included on Spotify.

MGMT - A Good Sadness
Managed to buy the records (MGMT and Congratulations), and I ended up listening to them a lot during schooltime. Outlet for exhaustion and bad mood. They sort of speak in riddles to me, but what I understand I could easily relate to. I'd also recommend Mystery Disease (off MGMT).

Also, if you're feeling broken, but Gorillaz is grade A, then Gorillaz - Broken. Works a bit like a sonic painkiller.
Oh boy this one might take me all day so I'll try to limit it to 5 songs in a recent playlist. I'd say what all these songs have in common is they're happily and sadly meloncholic, if that makes sense? When I get down, I usually listen to hopless loves songs. Where I find they can eloquently speak my feelings better than I can. That's where I get really intune with my sadness and depression. Enjoy ❤️
Wet - All in Vain (Don't You is such a heart wrenching album)
spotify:track:6a5xI87SEuxoeX6riFYEjM
Gnash ft. Olivia O'Brien - I hate U I Love U (Pretty much All of Gnash's albums </3)
spotify:track:7vRriwrloYVaoAe3a9wJHe
Japanese Wallpaper & Airling - Forces
spotify:track:6DeCiLWtJyeXge7Uo3NcgY
Lapsley - Falling Short

Dabin ft Daniela Andrade - Hold (Mr FijiWiji Remix)

I know what you mean. Sometimes you're sad and you just want to ride it out and be sad for a bit. But you want music that flows with the feelings.
I made a quick playlist a few weeks ago for someone who wanted sad songs but still with rock bands. You wouldn't know that some of these were rock songs. Just try and listen to these. I'm sure you will like at least a few. There's a variety of vibes too like a, I'm sad cause I'm not happy kinda vibe. Some are like sad with a few shedding tears. Some are that angry sad, kinda pissed off but just sad. Idk. Every deals with sadness and stuff differently. Play a few songs and let me know what you think! I always love feedback, good or bad!
For this kind of situations @user-removed :

I like some "sad" music although generally it just maybe quite meloncholy. I am only 2 songs into your playlist which so far is a little different to what I listen to. Ill get a playlist together tough and post again here. Although thinking about it, my playlist will probably be filled with Radiohead.
I totally agree. sometimes when I have the aux in my friends' cars, they ask me why I'm always depressed when in actuality downtempo beats and music calms me. I don't necessarily consider it simp rather that it's just chill and relatable

Hello there, Jacob827.
Sad songs are powerful as they could draw a person deeper into darkness and yet bringing out the peace from deep inside at the end of the songs. And hence, after giving a thought, these songs appeared and so here they are:
Send In The Clowns (losing hope...)
Desperado (no more hope...)
The Sound of Silence (welcome to darkness)
Numb (no more feelings)
Not really, but after I listened to some that made me cry I started listening more closely to the feelings they produce inside of me.
This one made me sad, but it's so true if you listen to just a few lines like
"Goodbye Paradise" or Billions are wasted on weapons and are ...
"The World is Dying"
spotify:track:7ABEQpO0GYvOHQjhVh3gTe
And songs like "Telegraph Road" or "Seasons in the sun" or a Country Song like "Lucille" can really make me sad and think.

Hi there, I am still trying to work out to send a sad song ...so hope it works this time

This is very sad but sooooo true !
Guess I'm here to represent some old folk-ish songs!
Did no one mention Nick Drake? His first two records were achingly beautiful, very autumnal. Emotional string arrnagements and quiet vocals. His final record, Pink Moon, was just vocals and guitar. Very pained.
The title track was used in a Volkswagen commercial around 2000 and brought him the fame he never achieved in his lifetime. The only exception to the vocals/guitar dynamic is 14-note piano melody played twice in the bridge of "Pink Moon."
spotify:track:16qzGrIMWoxerw2gnW0zuv
Another, "From the Morning." "And now we rise, and we are everywhere." - spotify:track:1Q2PWRAKkj3WxMPf7VEEJ1
His last batch of songs that found release on compilations, such as Black-Eyed Dog, Rider on the Wheel, and Hanging on a Star seemed to deal with his feelings of failure and depression after finding no success during his career. Particular of note is the lyric in "Hanging on a Star" -- "why leave me hanging on a star when you deemed me so high?"
Also of note is Connie Converse, arguably one of the first singer-songwriters. Predating Bob Dylan, Tim Buckley, and that entire East Village folk scene, Connie came and went very quickly.
spotify:track:2P8OrbNngfk62NQIaqFrVF
"I don't stand in the need of company, with everything I see talking like you."
And finally, the tragic story of Jackson C. Frank. A childhood fire left him injured, he had a promising folk career, and then he was homeless towards the end of his life. "Blues Run the Game" is his most famous. His singing is fantastic.
