Artists that have a highly unique sound

Are there any artists that you enjoy listening to who sound unique within their genre(s), and have a sound that is incomparable to that of any other artists that you’ve listened to? Feel free to share!

Cheers!

Would you like artists that aren't very popular or any artist/band that has a special sound?

Hi @10tullj, thanks for your post!

This topic is meant to be about any artists/bands that have a “special sound,” in that no other artist that you’ve listened to sounds like them; so the artists/bands to share here could be popular or unpopular, as long as they fit this criterion. My apologies if my post was unclear, and I hope this clarifies things a bit!

One artist that comes to mind from my own listening habits is Ozric Tentacles, who incorporate a noticeable electronic influence in their blend of psychedelic-, space-, and progressive rock:

While their music is representative of these aforementioned genres, to me their sound is incomparable to that of other bands that I’ve listened to. The closest artist in terms of sound would probably be Hidria Spacefolk, but even in this case, the two bands’ sounds are easily distinguishable.

Cheers!

It's ok! I wasn't sure if you were trying to promote new artists.

In my opinion, I believe that Black Flag and Motörhead have their own unique sound! I love them! I also love My Chemical Romance because of their sound. If I can remember correctly, I believe that they were inspired by both Black Flag and Motörhead! I believe that the members of My Chemical Romance listened to both of those bands. Particularly, I think that MCR's first album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, has it's very own sound.

I also think that Queen is a good group to mention. It's clear that they have a legacy and have made many great hits. Queen is very popular, but I still believe that their sound is one of a kind, and there's nothing like it!

Rezzett is so unique in the electronic space that it's hard to know where to place the sounds

Infinite Bisous feels like blues and dream pop but with sad boy vocals. Very strange but in a really good and pure way.

I believe Guns N Roses lead singer "Axl Rose" had a really unique sound, really loved this band and this is one of my favorites

First and easiest answer from me - Amon Tobin.

No-one else seems to have that delicately crafted melodies, sound design / sound manipulation, intriguing composition and incredible drums in one package.

His tracks are always little journeys in themselves - going off into unknown before returning to the echoes of where it began.
Something of his sound is incredibly organic as well, despite being all-electronic.

Deru seems to have a sound that is somewhere between the spiritual realm and this place. Layered beautifully crafted sounds.

I also always recognise Current Value for their very intense sound. It's generally also the reason why I don't listen to them that much, but I still love them. 😅

Same goes for Rawtekk, but they also have this uneasy / mystical vibe to it. More melody as well. The female vocals always make me feel fairly uneasy. : )

A whole heap of smaller acts have a recognisable sound. For instance this new discovery called Mystic Act seems to have an aesthetic for slow (halftime?) beat, where all the atmosphere is built by the bass, vocals, various little detail in the percussion and this ethereal submerged state.

Oh, and to get out of the electronic realm for a bit - Dave Bixby! The echoed 😔 sound. Very beautiful as well.

I suggest giving "Dave Matthews Band" a try if you're into 90's bluesy rock. Very unique sound - very musical and real. my favorites by them are "Warehouse" and "Dancing Nancies".

Hey folks,

My first thought on this topic would be Icelandic singer Björk. Her music style isn't only unique due to her distinctive voice and vocal techniques, but also because of the specific way she sounds, beats and instruments. Throughout the variety of musical experiments she performed I think this song is a good example of the exact way Björk sounds:

I think it's also worth mentioning Fiona Apple here. I'm in love with her voice and its range. Her lyrics really get me thinking of interpersonal relationships.

Hope you have a great day further!
