Best Albums of 2017

Hello guys!

A quarter of the way through 2017 already (I know!) - and already 2017 has some outstanding albums under its belt. I'd love to hear what your picks are!

Here's a template for sharing!

  • Album name
  • Artist name
  • Release date (optional)
  • Some words for the release (optional)
  • Album link
  • Your pick for the best song

Album name: Locations: USA

Artist: The Jazz Jousters

Release date: 23 February 2017

This is the 5th session of The Jazz Jousters Locations series.

In this session, they decided to pick up music from jazz musicians from USA and to make instrumentals in their own style. The unique thing in the album is that they used jazz sounds from the 60's. The main focus is on the piano sounds, blended with chillhop like sounds. The result is awesome!

My best pick is:

a super emotional indie punk release

ALBUM NAME: darn.

ARTIST NAME: Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick has done a great job to further the human emotions and inner struggle. I just love to see a hip hop artist today that focuses on heavily on topics and cohesiveness of an album.

Pride is such a genre bender, and a fun fact about this song: it was produced on garage band on an iPhone.

Album: Be Myself

Artist: Sheryl Crow

I have been meaning to mention this album because I think it gets back to the kind of rock/pop that Sheryl is absolutely brilliant at, sure the songs aren't in the mould of "All I Wanna Do" or "If It Makes You happy but it's still a great album.

Favourite songs: "Halfway There", "Alone in the Dark", "Be Myself"

Album: Out of Silence

Artist: Neil Finn

I listened to this twice last night, I am just stunned at how beautiful and poignant the lyrics and music are, Neil has always had this innate ability to sum up so much in a song, he also tackles things that I was surprised at such as terrorism etc.

Favourite songs: "Second Nature", "Alone" (features Neil's brother Tim), "Terrorise Me"

Album: Rainbow

Artist: Kesha

I have not really ever been a huge fan of Kesha but curiosity got the better of me and wow, I am impressed with Rainbow. It's a mature (for most part) album that really puts a certain colleague in mainstream pop music to shame. Eagles of Death Metal collabs were inspired choices as well

Favourite songs: "Let 'Em Talk" (feat. Eagles of Death Metal), "Praying", "Rainbow'

An amazing album, from the first song to the closer. Nice guitar solos and a raw voice. A little bit retro-ish, could remind you of early Fleetwood Mac, Dylan or Springsteen.
