Don't get me wrong, Billy's a favourite one mine, but there's something about Kirsty MacColl's version. It's perfect pop; the reimagined textures, the harmonies, it's just given it a whole new lease of lie.
The original version of this slaps so hard - pure 60's Stax soul from Tennessee that's guaranteed to get me moving, admittedly... but there's something in the production of Roxy Music's version that puts it on par in a different manner.
Fun fact: Bryan Ferry also covered 'Let's Stick Together'. Not many people know that his biggest solo hit was originally written by Wilbert Harrison in 1962 (14 years prior).
Also, I'm an independent musician and songwriter, and my cover of The Verve Pipe's "The Freshman" has been generating a lot of plays on Spotify, which is pretty surprising to me but cool nonetheless. Shameless plug, but check it out if you're so inclined:
