Best Guitar Solos?

Hiya Folks,

The ancient art of the guitar solo done by many, mastered by few. I've come across so many lists of "The Best Solos of All Time" it starts to become a bit annoying because I know it's only one person's opinion. That's where you come in. I want to know some of the best solos you've ever heard.

Also, I would like to make a small playlist of your favourites. With more people adding suggestions we should have a more rounded list that covers everyone.

Here's my suggestion. The solo starts at 1:50

SO many great solos.  All Along Watchtower - Jimi,  The break in Whole Lotta Love is legendary.
Here is my track.  I tried to keep this solo melodic and flowing...hope you like it.

Great topic, @lukebotham1!

Here are a few songs with guitar solos that I enjoy listening to:

The solo starts at 4 minutes into this track by Kyuss and continues until the track fades out; I love the guitar tone, as well as how chilled-out the melodies are!

I think Mdou Moctar’s hammer-on technique sounds amazing during his solo from 4:42 – 6:30 in “Tarhatazed,” while also raising the energy level nicely towards the end of this upbeat track.

I also really like the guitar solo in this track by Vokonis (from 5:35 – 6:25); it has a rather ominous sound, which I think suits the dark, heavy atmosphere of the track quite well.

The brief guitar solo in this track by King Buffalo sort of comes out of nowhere, and I think its effects-laden tone sounds great; you can hear it from 5:34 – 6:00 in the track.

Cheers!

Here is mine. It's short, but powerful. Amazing drum part as well! Begins at 2:11 of the song.

Agree that this is a great topic @lukebotham1! A little late to the party seeing when you first posted this!

I started playing guitar not long after I first heard Eruption by Eddie Van Halen. I enjoy all types of music but have have always loved hard rock/metal.

My favorite solo is by Alex Skolnic in Testament's song Practice What You Preach. Some melodic shredding - starts at the 2:10 mark and goes through 3:30.

A few other notable solos:

Eric Johnson, Desert Rose. So the first solo starts around the 1:34 mark through 2:33, essentially picked backed up at 3:17 through almost the entire rest of the song. Johnson can fly up and down the fretboard with ease, so clean too!

J Mascis' guitar work on Where You Been is incredible, particularly the solo in Get Me (2:56-3:38)

A bit shorter but I've always loved George Lynch's solo on Into the Fire, preferring the live version on Beast from the East. Starts at 2:36 ends at 3:02.
