Best Indie Songs 2016

 2016 indie.jpg

Hey folks, it's time to start a new thread for all the best indie music discoveries you make in 2016.

If you're wondering how we define indie around here, the answer is however you define indie.

"Indie" can mean:

  • Bands that are on independent labels
  • Used to be on independent labels
  • Sound like bands that are on indepedendent labels
  • The list goes on...
So we're asking you to submit your favorite Indie songs of 2016 by your own definition of indie.

You can follow our playlist of all songs in this thread here:

Also we wanted to give a shout out to @TommyWesters own "Best New Indie 2016" playlist:

Check out this single by Kayla Jay. I've been listening to her stuff and waiting for her album since her EP. I've heard some sogs she wrote for DJ Matt Miller's album and they are good love songs with a dance feel.

New record from Altadore 'Opal, Luna, and Hymn' out now. For fans of baroque pop and moody alt-folk, here's a new single "If Only For You"...

Don't know why this one is so under the radar. Just came across it today, already a strong competitor for a new Indie favourite.

I started my own indie label Starmode in 2015 and now we have over 10 single releases and each one of them has been well accepted by the industry. Starmode music is already club supported and radio premiered by industry heavyweights such as Stonebridge, Quintino, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Swanky Tunes, Pink Panda, BBC UK + more.

I think you should check these tracks out and consider adding some of them to your lists.

Check my label's releases playlist here:

Thank you for your time and effort!

Best,

Check out my friend's band, Olympic out of Los Angeles. They're an indie/alt duo who just released their debut E.P. in June of 2016.

This one is called, "Wifi," and I think it is the best suited for your playlist.

I fell in love with this unsigned artist last year (unsigned is how I'm defining indie here :P) -- Patternist. He's a solo artist with an indie-pop band sound. Last EP release was last year but he just released a new single this week so that'll count for 2016!

Here it is:

Artist:
Pollyn

Sounds like:
LA downtempo electronic, transparency, dark night drives, incredible production a sexy vocal.

Feels like:
Portishead with more new light, Fith Element, cool sci-fi art and amazing music video album

This is an indie musician from Argentina. You should give a listen to it.

There are so many. But here's a cool new find. Jake Sherman!

He's a quirky artist with a refreshingly classic storybook songwriting style. I like his emotional honesty in this new song ’Say and Mean’ and his vibe feels like Stevie Wonder, his production like Andy Shauf (who's productions are incredible) and vocally a touch of Ben Folds.

Jake is collaborator in the Brooklyn scene which still seems to be dominating allot of new music in indie alternative making its mark. He's a singer, pianist and organist by upbringing. He's also performs on Chance The Rapper's Coloring Book, Nick Hakim's Where Will We Go and plays in the bands of Bilal, Empress Of, Benny Sings, Bilal to Gabriel Garzòn-Montano!

I hope he breaks soon. Take a listen or playlist upworthy if you're feeling it too.
