Best song you ever heard being performed live?

Hey folks!

It's that time of year again - the leaves are turning orange, and festival season has sadly come to a close. I didn't make it to any of the big ones this year, but managed to go to a pretty cool local one that was chock-full of talent! As I search my concerts tab for some cool gigs nearby, it's got me wondering... what's the best song you've ever heard live? Have you ever seen a live performance that changed your opinion on an artist? Or do you have a special track that brings back memories of a gig that absolutely blew your mind?

For me, Scotland's T in the Park back in 2011 brought so many phenomenal performances that it's impossible to name them all. Coldplay's Fix You gave me goosebumps, and Bruno Mars' whole set was the most energetic thing I've ever seen. A particular highlight was Foo Fighters refusing to go through the charade of an encore. This gave them time to fit in an extra song...

But the most memorable gig I ever attended was last year at The Union Chapel in Islington, London. It was the launch party for Passenger's charity album Whispers II. This little church gig was so intimate, that he was able to step away from the mic and unplug his guitar, and we could still hear him perfectly. I'll never forget it.

I'd love to hear your best gig stories, and the songs attached to them!

Foo Fighters are hands down one of the best bands I've seen live. They're great showmen, but they're also amazing live!

They tend to like ending on Everlong, which is awesome.

Awesome topic, @Natalie! Here's a couple I remember vividly.

Girl Band - 'Paul'

Caught these guys at the Lexington on Pentonville Road. Sold out show, easily the loudest gig I've been to. This was played in the climactic part of the set... Glasses were smashed, sweat poured... It was equally terrifying and exciting.

The National - 'Humiliation'

Christmastime. Alexandra Palace. I literally cried. One of about three performances that brought me to tears.

The Album Leaf - 'The Outer Banks'

Caught these guys twice in one weekend at the second-to-last ATP Festival in Prestatyn, North Wales. They placed their album 'In A Safe Place' in it's entirety on the first night, and it was magical. This particular track stayed with me.

The Horrors - 'Mirror's Image'

I went to see them at the Waterfront in Norwich when I was at college with my best friend. Still one of my favourite bands ever, and they opened with this huge shoegazed-psych belter from their second album.

I've seen one concert of a Dutch band called Blöf.

It was one of the first gigs they did in the year outside and in my hometown.

The setting is a small outdoor theater (capacity about 2000 people maximum) and they played so good. I've seen them a couple of times now and everytime I think they are getting better.

They sing in Dutch so that may be difficult for you guys 🙂

@mzwagemakers Really cool, thanks for sharing!

@Natalie

I have a long long story with live concerts from the Beatles to the Rolling Stones passing by Prince, The Who, The Kinks, Radiohead, Blur, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen to name just a very few. What always came first in my mind when I talk with someone about a live performance is the song "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd and the final guitar solo by David Gilmour.

Every time I listen a live version of this song I feel like floating in space surrounded by a sea of green lasers. It was many years ago but if I close my eyes I see it like if it was yesterday.

Tip : Play it Loud 🙂

went to one of the last John Coffey gigs last month,

i must say them playing Me Vs I was one of the best things ever.

Me VS I by John Coffey

Saw Black Pistol Fire over the summer in Denver. They were definitely unforgettable! Their set was earlier in the day so not a lot of people had showed up yet, but it gave me more room to jam out. The weather was great that day too, which is probably why I remeber it more fondly than other festivals I've been to

Another performance I loved from this year was Parov Stelar, and it was totally different than any concert I've been to. I was expecting someone behind a table mixing some songs, but he actually has a full band complete with a sax, trumpet, trumbone, and singer that travels and performs his songs

Foster the People

The band's first album was amazing. What I didn't expect was how awesome it was gonna be live. It was a surprise that they included Philippines in their tour, we were overjoyed. The concert didn't disappoint at all. Mark Foster just went crazy on stage playing multiple instruments and running around. The energy of the band was on 200% the whole time.

The Killers and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were also awesome live!

Still waiting for Coldplay to come over this other side of town.

This song was amazing live:

All the fangirls went crazy, but fact is; the 1975 is the best live band I know.

spotify:track:3AJwUDP919kvQ9QcozQPxgI got to see Coldplay at Soldier Field this summer and wow was it an incredible show. It was like nothing I had ever experienced in my life. There was over 60,000 people there and they had an incredible stage and immense energy. The entire stadium was lit up with lights and everyone was dancing and singing along. It was certainly a natural high to be there. Definitely the best live band I've ever seen.

Joining the bandwagon, and when I saw this question "Best song you ever heard being performed live?", I would love to hear the following songs all over again. Yes, live and they nailed it 🙂

First ever major concert I've attended to was Jason Mraz concert in Manila, Philippines. That was the night where it was all acoustic with his vibrato all over the arena. Don't forget his music side-kick Toca Rivera. That was an exhilarating night!

They did play all songs here.

The next big songs I've heard live was from my favorite band One Republic. It was just this year in a concert of MTV Asia. To name a few, I'm sure everyone knows they sang the song Apologize, Secrets, Counting Stars, etc. It gave me chills! It was raining that night, and yes, we are rocking that night out in an open field in Manila.

They ended the night with If I Lose Myself song and everyone went crazy 🙂

https://open.spotify.com/album/4ySSx2L6h2siW22LK6dwhN

Lastly, who doesn't know The Chainsmokers? They did a concert in Manila for the very first time and it went viral. The night was lit, indeed! I think this is the first entry of EDM group here if I'm not mistaken, so they deserve the credit 🙂

Their #1 hit in Billboard chart entitled Closer gave us chills.

These are the top 3 concerts I've been to with the best songs I've ever heard being played LIVE, and I'm looking forward to meeting Colplay next year. Hopefully, they can come in Manila. If you know them, inform them that we are all crazy wanting to see them live. #ManilaWantsColdplay

That's it!
