The Folk/ Americana genre has been pushed into the spotlight lately with the success of artists such as Hiss Golden Messenger, Hurray For The Riff Raff, Lost In The Trees, Strand of Oaks, Bowerbirds (to name just a few).
In this thread you can share your favorite Folk/ Americana artists with less than 500 Spotify followers.
Tyler Butler has only 87 followers today but his somber folks songs will hopefully garner him some more attention soon. I recommend for fans of Evening Hymns, Sun Kil Moon, Damien Jurado

Michael Dean Damron ( 89 Followers )
Best known as Mike D., frontman of rowdy indie rock band I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House, Michael Dean Damron is a true singer/songwriter at the core. Damron puts his rabble-rousing aside for a more melodic and heartfelt mix of country, blues, rock, and soul. His debut album, A Perfect Day for a Funeral, was produced by Fernando's Lewi Longmire and issued by the Portland-based imprint In Music We Trust in spring 2005. ( http://www.allmusic.com )

Trailer Bride ( 195 Followers )
Trailer Bride was a Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based alternative country rock band signed to Bloodshot Records. Formed in 1993, the band consisted of Melissa Swingle (vocalist, guitarist), Robert Mitchener (bass guitar), Brad Goolsby (drummer), Bryon Settle (guitarist) and Scott Goolsby (guitarist). In the summer of 1997, after the release of their first album, Daryl White replaced Mitchener as bassist.
The band is known for a southern gothic sound, with lyrics reminiscent of the works of Flannery O'Connor. Their songs are described as "spooky", and often contained dark themes of death, sin and sex. ( Wikipedia )

TS Brooks ( 15 Followers )
TTS Brooks has called Berlin, Germany residence for the last couple of years. The California born singer/songwriter first toured Germany in 2009 after the release of his debut album, 'Tertiary Allotment Is A Delightfulness' (Snowstorm Music), and hasn't stopped since. Having now included to the list Italy, Spain, England, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, Brooks continues to tour, write and record, bringing out new albums along the way.
In his erstwhile project, Minmae, who recorded 10 full-length albums in as many years, Brooks mixed Byrds-like jangle-pop with sonic detours into psych, drone, and experimentalism. Brooks' new music virtually eschews all instrumentation, and his live shows are intimate and sincere, imposing focus on the stories, recollections, observations, and appeals that make up his lyrical universe. Hinting at Americana and modern folk, his voice straddles somewhere between Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt, and and the late Vic Chesnutt.

Hi! I represent pop/folk singer-songwriter Olivia Frances! She would really appreciate it if you would check out her music and consider adding her to a playlist!
spotify:track:6JrO4wVO4VXbJ4fRzYwNrX
She recently released her new album Evergreen which received great reviews. The talented singer is known for her sunshine story pop music, think Jason Mraz meets Florence & the Machine.
The blend of a 20-year-old’s sunny disposition with the wisdom of an old soul can be found in the folky pop-country musical creations of singer-songwriter Olivia Frances, Cincinnati native and winner of Best Pop Song of 2014 at the Ohio Music Awards. Olivia spent her gap year between high school and college in Nashville honing her distinctive sound by co-writing with notable songwriters such as Billy Lee (“The One” by Gary Allan), receiving attention from heavy-hitting music publishers such as Warner/Chappell Music. Olivia currently lives outside Boston and performs regularly on the East Coast to promote her newest album, Evergreen, which serves as a follow-up to her 2013 debut album Back to Happiness.
