Music You Didn't Like at First, But Grew on You

Ever listen to an artist or album, and think "not for me," then go back weeks or years later, and think "Wow, what was I thinking, this is AWESOME!"

Moods are so pervasive and can ulitmately affect what you like at any given moment. Maybe you just weren't in the right mood when you initially played the album. Or when years have gone between listening, maybe you have matured and learned to appreciate something in a brand new way.

My first example is Deerhunter. Didn't like them at first, but they have been showing up on my Discover Weekly, and I decided to give them a chance. Now I think they are great.

Post something you changed your mind about!

Die Antwoord definitely!!! I listened to Baby's On Fire for the first time and at first, i was like what is this TRASH, but then for some reason, I kept listening to it and now they're my favorite band. (✿◠‿◠)

When I first release songs I'm often not the biggest fan. It's so easy to be insecure and focused on the flaws. But the more I listen back (even though they're my own songs lol) the more I fall in love with these guys. Let me know if you agree!

When Bonn Saenpang dropped his first two songs I wasn't really impressed and couldn't feel it. But then I heard his third song called "Chill Out" on Spotifys own playlist "Wochende" and just thought Wow, this guy improved alot. Then Bonn Saenpang dropped two more really good songs and my only opinion is why isn't he a worldwide artist yet. Looking forward to hear more from him!

So when I first discovered Post Malone, I listened to this song:

At first listen, I was like this sounds so typical and un-original. But after a few more listens, I started understanding his lyrics. Like they were really sinking in. Basically he talks about how no one believed in him when he first started out as an artist but now he's this huge hip-hop singer! That really resonated with me because I am also an artist and listening to lyrics like this make want to work as hard and achieve something!

After a while of listening to this song, not only did i feel the lyrics, but also the actual music. I honestly think Post Malone is a very unique artist!

Payphone by Maroon 5. I didn't think it fit me very well at first, but now it's one of my favorite songs. For me it flows really well and actually makes me happy...

Same here! I wasn't intrested in it at all, but I went to give it a try. Artists like XXXTentacion, Lil Uzi Vert, and Migos grew on me, now I always listen to them. Now I'm a fan.

Any electronic music when I was younger. And now I listen to mostly electronic music of some type.

I like this thread and I'm going to pull it back to page one. 😉

Lately I have only asked myself why I dismissed this or that album. Rawtekk's 'Here's To Them' album is wicked as hell, jesus!
Rawtekk's music is a collection of raw sound design and fierce beats. I didn't understand that kind of stuff before, it sounded so harsh, violent and raw, and now that I've sort of burned myself in, I'm able to fully appreciate all that material. It's actually beautiful, the production and the clarity of sounds.

Looks like I've been forcing myself through stuff. I was really intimidated by some material played by Amon in his live sets when I first started introducing myself to this stuff (in 2016) and had been listening to very calm stuff before.

Emo and punk rock definitely grew on me over time!
