Nice Playlist! I know actually some Dutch writers who told me they could write very well while listing to my song "The Ghost". The song has a slow build up and is a bit melancholic as well, towards the end it gets very powerful/dramatic. Fun fact for this topic, the lyrics was written by someone who's writing a YA fantasy serie himself. Hope you'll like "The Ghost"! https://open.spotify.com/track/31JnPBSxmTtSRcG8wabvL9
These two songs "God / Love / America" and "Bleachers" by A Band Called Sad are written with incredible thought. While God Love is a hip-hop based anthem, it holds a lot of value correlating to culture and society. Bleachers is a love song, but not your average love song - more so on "sitting on the school bleachers after a breakup." Talk about melancholic!
For me, I tend to switch it up depending on the mood I'm going for, but generally my writing music tents to be minimal on lyrics, and is often movie soundtracks. For instance, I was writing a fantasy novel for NANOWRIMO and I kept bouncing between the soundtracks for 300 and LOTR. If I'm writing a bit with festivities, I zone out with some Celtic Folk music. Lúnasa I've found to be especially good for that.
