New Genres You've Discovered

I'm curious what obscure/new genres people have come across in their listening. I can never pinpoint exactly what genre some of my music is, and it starts me down a music genre rabbit hole.

I recently discovered "deep slacker jazz" coined by the band Soul Coughing and their hit song, Super Bon Bon:

Another one I love is Electro Swing, which DJ Parov Stelar made a decent Spotify playlist of: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1U9xLxFpXyyH14rLdtBHXQ?si=ZQ9PYqQbSzOQSJJe68OvUw

Great idea, @Mahumjamal! “Deep slacker jazz” has a funny name, similar to one of my favorite genres, “stoner rock,” haha 😀

One genre that has been relatively new to my ears this year is post-rock/metal. It’s not a relatively new genre (the term “post-rock” has been used since the 90’s). However, post-rock/metal is a genre that I have only recently started enjoying more frequently, and I thought I’d share a few representative tracks of this genre that I’ve been listening to this year:

There are 2-3 (rap, which I hate but used to like; death metal; meme music (if it counts))genres I’ve discovered in the last 1-2 years.

I never even try to reckon genres - i still call the electronic music i enjoy "dubstep," though spotify clarified at th'end of last year that most of my time was spent with "brostep," a specific example of which i cannot give. I'll share some that i do know though, gleaned from artist page.

nu-metalcore

swancore

jazz-metal (from Germany)

😂Wow tynon_12221, that last one is the definition of a wild card. Never heard of swancore, or any of those genres. It blows my mind how specific each category gets. Jazz-metal is great, I might have to make that my next deep dive.

@DBoon Ohh I love this. Reminds me of 2000s music and alternative rock in general, thinking Snow Patrol, Lifehouse etc. But this is different, I see that. I dig it.

why has spotify blocking my album Sludge 'A Shade of Truth" when i paid tunecore all the money to put it on spotify? Is spotify a rip off? Spotify is ripping people off, ripping the musicians off who they are, musicians are the ones that spotify is really making money off not the listeners, im calling prime time media on this**bleep**

Indeed! And thats why i dont try, so specific, if you think youve got it, some pedant comes along and nasally says "actuallyyy, that is this because this has those while that dont." Good music is, period.

What is this?

not blues despite the callout. not instrumental because samples. not electronic because analog instruments. Is good though lol

@TreyAnastasio - This is so lovely. It has a U2 nostalgic element to it, but also reminds me of Angels & Airwaves and something else I can't exactly put my finger on..

@tynon_1221 So true. By the way, thanks for another great share! You're right though, music is just music. Labeling art is a somewhat futile task to embark on - It's good music, it's an art and a feeling. And I love the vibes on that last one.

Here's a tag for you - I've been revisiting Sufjan Stevens, and he actually takes influences from biblical music. How great is that.

Hi @l0c3rd8r3azp3fn,

Thanks for reaching out about this to the Spotify Community!

I recommend contacting your distributor so that you can check why the album has been removed from Spotify. You can read more about this here.

I hope this helps, and let us know if you have any other questions.

i did check with my distributor Tunecore and they are fingering you, claiming you are reason for why my music is now removed from all streaming and sales outlets.

They claim you made first move by labeling my music as a copyright infringement, and your first move was to block me from Spotify based on a infringement claim from Create Music Group,

this move you made has now made my distributor to decide to stop distributing my music to all outlets

and i can prove 100% ownership to my music through copyright Gov.

im not new to music

my record was released May 6th, 2020 one month later were dealing with this

without question my music sold heavy this first month..... as why i got this claim.....
just wonder how much.....

for all those musicians out there with little experience.... copyright with Gov always before anyone hears your stuff

being i have experience let me share

the first thing i will do if there has been substantial sales is to go to Federal Court and sue all parties involved. Spotify, Tunecore and Createmusic Group

Hands down im looking at a substantial law suit i have won already

to all the readers out there, simplely put
have your ownship in order
copyright with Gov before anyone hears it

and have everything saved in the writing and recording to end product so in court you can show all

Will be interesting to see how Spotify and Tunecore respond, being they are large and need daily flow of revenues to be flowing and not stopped by court power.... we will see how much i can get from them

if you have ownership and can prove it, what you can sue for is huge, why cause its our right in USA with constitution to chase happiness

and Fed court is the most powerful court in the land to defend us.

this fight is on

i did check with my distributor Tunecore and they are fingering you, claiming you are reason for why Tunecore removed my music from all streaming and sales outlets.

Tunecore claims you say Create Music Group made initial infringement claim, and you Spotify took in trust this allegation from Create Music Group and you made first move against me Sludge 'A Shade of Truth' to deny my music streaming
from this bold step, without my knowledge or written contact to me
Tunecore then felt it was enough proof trusting your move to do the same to me, without writing or consent

I am requesting from you all steaming and sales from 5-06-20 to 6-07-20 for my Sludge 'A Shade of Truth'

i would prefer to get this solved fast with out need to use fed court
