Hey guys! I've been compiling a playlist of "shima uta" (island song) of Okinawa and the Ryukyu islands of Japan. This music is very relaxing to me and like Hawaiian music, it evokes a slower, more relaxed feeling and way of life. Once you become used to the unique melodies and scales, they become instantly recognizable (even when used in other styles of music). For this playlist, I tried to stick to music strictly in the traditional style (or very close to it), so you'll notice the absence of certain other Okinawan artists, such as Nagisa Ni Te and Ryukyu Underground (both of whom are very good, BTW). Let me know if any of you have a suggestion for an artist or song(s) to be added to this playlist. Thanks and enjoy!
