Fun facts :

* It's one of the first song recorded with James Brown's new band, The J.B.'s.
* The song is centered on riffs played by brothers Bootsy and Catfish Collins (bass and guitar) and Jabo Starks (drums).
* A big part of the song is interplay between James Brown and his right-hand man, Bobby Byrd.
* Despite a shocking title at that time, the song became the first Hot 100 hit with the word "sex" in the title.
* Despite the title, the song isn't all that carnal.
* In the 2014 film Mr. Dynamite : The Rise of James Brown, Byrd says : "The lyric wasn't saying all that much, but the fact that we were saying 'sex machine,' that wasn't supposed to be said."
