Is anyone here a Progressive Rock/Metal fan? If so, which bands do you enjoy listening to?
@jbostic Thanks for sharing, nice playlist. Try not to include more than 2 tracks by the same band (Camel, Genesis, Steve Hackett). Other than that good selection!
Hi, i love listening to bands like Dream Theater, Kamelot and many of the European symphonic bands.
I would love for you to check out my band Dark Beauty when you have a moment. We are... Symphonic Gothic Progressive Rock. Let me know if you like any of the music!
Album: Fall From Grace
An album telling the tragic tale of the Dark Angel's tragic fall.
Hope to hear back and to connect ๐
Best,
Liz Tapia

I used to listen to a lot of the old-school prog bands and have circled back to them recently. One of the newer acts that got me digging back into the history is Flying Colors, which features the drummer from Dream Theater and a couple of guys from Dixie Dregs. Anybody else familiar with them?

@brian_mansfield Never heard of them, but of course I am familiar with Dream Theater and Dixie Dregs. I have listened to three songs and my first impression is, that Flying colors present a very lightweight vision of Progressive Rock. "Mask machine" and "Bombs away" are straight-forward Rock-songs without leaving the usual 4/4 rhythm and classic song structures. "Open up your eyes" contains more Progressive Rock, but in my opinion they shine more with the shorter songs.

@artful_dodger59 wrote:Old school! How can you have a list and not have Pink Floyd on there? Also, Genesis, Yes, Rush, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues, ELP, Marillion, Renaissance, Camel, Gentle Giant, Van der Graaf Generator, and of course Rick Wakeman to name a few...
Enjoy
Me too: Definitely old school, Dodger ...all those younger bands are technically very good but just copies and blends of those ancient giants. I stopped listening to neoprog since the 80-ies alltogether and picked up jazz and classical.
We're a new progrock band from Mannheim, Germany. Have a listen to our Debut EP.

I love progressive rock and metal. Rush is probably my all time fav. A lot of these have been mentioned: Dream Theater, Symphony X, Yes, Spockโs Beard, Tool, Coheed and Cambria.
Iโm also a solo artist, and my first track borders on progressive rock, but I tried not to get too carried away.
