Samples in your favourite songs

Hey, all! :)

I've been looking up samples used in songs I like, just out of curiosity - wanting to hear what the original thing sounds like. It has turned out to be a very interesting way of accidently staying up the whole night... :')

Sampling is a pretty widely used technique where an artist takes a snippet from another piece of music, modifies it and uses it in their own key. You can find samples in hiphop songs where it fills up the melody part, or you can find a ton of samples you can't even recognise from a song that is entirely constructed from samples.

One of the nice things I found from Utah Jazz' track "Take No More", a beautiful blues track:

I am curious if any of you are also into sampling or looking up where the sounds originate from. Would love to hear your favourite snippets. :)

Whoa, I got to dig through this list sometime..! Thank you for posting it!

I love Clair de Lune (by Debussy). And I have to thank Lamb for taking on this beauty and use one of those parts that always gives me goosebumps.

And the following song begins with such a lovely melody, which then flies away.. or would fly away if Amon didn't catch it and use it to set a perfectly slow, soft, dark and sensual mood in his song called Slowly.
Gotta love the lyrics! :D

"Of the Night" is a mash up of two 1990s Eurodance songs, the 1993 hit "The Rhythm of the Night" by Italian act Corona and the 1992 hit "Rhythm Is a Dancer" by German group Snap!
I really love this song...

@Sebasty Often find myself recognising parts and pieces in a song but never known that it's actually called snippets. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Here's a song with a favourite piece of music as its snippet.

Fall Out Boy used a sample of Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner in one of their songs. Check it out!

One of the worst things is when I hear a sample that I know I have heard but I cannot place where it came from. Luckily, I had no trouble placing the recognizable trumpets from Earth, Wind, and Fire's song "September" in both TLC's song "Its Sunny" and in Girl Talk's album Feed the Animals, which is comprised almost entirely of samples from other songs!

John Coltrane's "In A Sentimental Mood" was used by Mac Miller "Diablo" (Which isn't on Spotify ... :\ )

And Future's Track "Mask Off" is a sample of the "Prison Song" by Tommy Butler ft. Carlton Williams :)

Love the recreation of older works in newer pieces

Uhh the Tommy Butler's 'Prison Song' brings goosebumps! So soulful.

It's ok if a song is not present on Spotify. I am curious enough to go and ping Youtube and other platforms and sources with that. ;)

It is indeed cool. Those snippets from old songs definitely give a different atmosphere, and for me it's really enjoyable. :)

Repost, but the last reply was from last year.

One of my all-time favourite songs is this:

spotify:track:2iN3sND7JNguttGbuyr8

The lyrics to this are otherworldly.
It also uses the following song as a sample for the melody:
