Flaming lips ( 3From 3 From 1 )

The Flaming Lips are an American rock band formed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1983. Instrumentally, their sound contains lush, multi-layered, psychedelic rock arrangements, but lyrically their compositions show elements of space rock, including unusual song and album titles—such as "What Is the Light? (An Untested Hypothesis Suggesting That the Chemical [In Our Brains] by Which We Are Able to Experience the Sensation of Being in Love Is the Same Chemical That Caused the "Big Bang" That Was the Birth of the Accelerating Universe)".

Hit to Death in the Future Head is The Flaming Lips' fifth album and their debut album on Warner Bros. Records. It was released on August 5, 1992. It is also the first Flaming Lips album to receive a Parental Advisory warning.

Transmissions from the Satellite Heart is The Flaming Lips' sixth album, released in 1993. Its fourth track, "She Don't Use Jelly", is notable for being The Flaming Lips' first charting radio hit, after its video was featured on the MTV show Beavis and Butt-Head, nearly a year after the album's release. "Turn It On" was also a moderately-successful single, and also had two different music videos, one of which was shot at a laundromat. The album marked the departure of Jonathan Donahue (to Mercury Rev) and Nathan Roberts, and the addition of guitarist Ronald Jones and drummer Steven Drozd.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is the tenth studio album by The Flaming Lips, released by Warner Bros. Records on July 16, 2002, in the United Kingdom and the following day in the United States. It is characterized by electronic-influenced, psychedelic-tinged indie rock compositions. It has been certified Gold by the RIAA.[1] Yoshimi was well-received critically and commercially, helping the band break into the mainstream. The album was adapted into a musical in 2012.

Ween

Ween  (3 from 3 from 1 )

Ween was an American experimental rock band. They formed in 1984 in New Hope, Pennsylvania when central members Aaron Freeman (Gene Ween) and Mickey Melchiondo (Dean Ween) met in an eighth grade typing class. Ween has a large cult underground fanbase[citation needed] despite being less known in American pop music. The band's style is eclectic, and while they could generally be referred to as rock music, one of their defining tendencies has been experimentation with various styles incorporating a strong element of humor and absurdity

Chocolate and Cheese is Ween's fourth studio album, originally released by Elektra Records in 1994. It was the first Ween album to eschew the crude four-track home recordings of their first three albums and utilize a professional recording studio. However, most of the instruments were still played by Dean and Gene Ween, including their drum machine

The Mollusk is the sixth full-length album by Ween. It was released on Elektra Records on June 24, 1997. It is a partial concept album, with nearly every song containing a dark nautical theme. The songs on the album cover multiple genres of music and are bound together by a heavy progressive rock influence, often incorporating psychedelic elements

The Pod is the second studio album by Ween, originally released by Shimmy Disc in September 1991. Most often considered the band's "challenging album," The Pod (named for the apartment Dean and Gene shared in which all of the album's songs were recorded) is probably also the band's most surreal.

. Eye is an album released by Robyn Hitchcock in 1990 on Glass Fish (UK) and Twin/Tone Records (US) and is his fourth solo album, and eighth including his work with The Egyptians

Up, Bustle and Out - ( 3 from 3 from 1 )

Up, Bustle and Out are musicians and recording artists - DJ D. "Ein" Fell (also known as Clandestine Ein) and producer-performer Rupert Mould (also known as Señor Roody) from Bristol, Senor Cuffy (Spanish Guitarist), Dave Cridge (Beat Keeper and tour/soundsystem dj) UK. They have released a number of albums and singles on the Ninja Tune independent record label.
Their music combines jazz, hip-hop and funk, but with a distinctly international flavour, particularly South American and Cuban influences. The 2 Master Sessions albums were co-written by Cuban flautist and orchestrator, Richard Egües.

Rebel radio master sessions Vol.1 ( 2000 ) The first of two volumes in the Rebel Radio series is less a melding of breakbeat dance and native Latin forms than it is a trip-hop album inspired by Cuban music. It was undoubtedly a wise decision -- especially considering the potentially gimmicky sound of Cuban music laced with hip-hop breaks -- but Up, Bustle and Out also ran the risk of their listeners not being able to follow them. The album begins with a pair of tight beatbox-funk jams, "The Educators" and "Hip Hop Barrio," then goes into two traditional Cuban songs performed with a large band led by flutist Richard Egües who has played with salsa star icons including Tito Puente, Joe Cuba, Larry Harlow, and Fania All-Stars. The rest of the album follows the same blueprint, with a couple of excellent up-tempo trip-hop tracks leading into a section of flute- and piano-led ( John Bush ) allmusic

One colour just reflects another ( 1996 )An up-tempo, groove-oriented acid jazz/hip-hop hybrid with strong Latin and Middle Eastern influences. Recordings gathered on location sit nicely in the mix next to deep beats, fat acoustic basslines, and a bevy of instrumental sources. ( Sean Cooper ) Allmusic

Light 'em up, Blow 'em out . ( 1997 )Up, Bustle and Out's flair for the far-flung continues on their third full-length, which incorporates an even wider array of styles than its trip-hop-heavy predecessors. Light 'Em Up has its fair share of beat logic, of course, but the group has filled out the flamenco, Brazilian, and gypsy influences that only peppered previous releases, resulting in an odd, off-kilter, truly original sound. Butthole surfers ( 3 from 3 from 1 )

Butthole Surfers is an American rock band formed by Gibby Haynes and Paul Leary in San Antonio, Texas in 1981. Teresa Nervosa served as second drummer from 1983 to 1985, 1986 to 1989, and 2009. The band has also employed a variety of bass players, most notably Jeff Pinkus.

Rooted in the 1980s hardcore punk scene, Butthole Surfers quickly became known for their chaotic and disturbing live shows, black comedy, and a sound that incorporated elements of psychedelia, noise, punk rock and, later, electronica, as well as their use of sound manipulation and tape editing.Butthole Surfers have a well-reported appetite for recreational drugs, an evident influence on their sound.

The album was certified gold by the RIAA on August 20, 1996.The title of this album is a parody of Jimi Hendrix's third studio album entitled Electric Ladyland. This is the second time the band has used a parody title for one of their releases. The first was Hairway to Steven which references the song "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin. The album's original title was going to be Oklahoma!, but fearing lawsuits, Capitol forced the band to change the name.

Locust Abortion Technician is the third full-length studio album by American experimental punk band Butthole Surfers, released in March 1987. All songs were written and produced by Butthole Surfers, except for "Kuntz," which was written by an uncredited Thai artist.

Mutual Benefit ( 3 from 3 from 1 )

Mutual Benefit was first created as a musical project by Jordan Lee while he was living in Austin, Texas. Lee then moved to Boston in order to meet up with some musicians he wanted to play with. The band consisted of fluid band members, and the band's line-ups on tours were based on which musicians were available at the time. While touring on the road in late 2011, Lee began recording for the album Love's Crushing Diamond. Lyrics and musical composition for the album were written while Lee was living in St. Louis, but the recording began at the Ohm Recording Studio in Austin, Texas. The album was finished in Boston and released on October 7, 2013. The album became the first Bandcamp release to be named "Best New Music" by Pitchfork. ( Wikipedia )

Here's my 9, from The Boy Least Likely To.  Musically, this band is almost the exact opposite of what I enjoy: it's bright, fizzy, pop-y twee.   I check out random CDs from the library, and The Great Perhaps was one of my picks for the week.  Upon first listen, I didn't enjoy it all, but then I started listening to the lyrics.  Holy crap!  The Boy Least Likely To is the soundtrack for the asocial set.  Almost every song is shot straight to the heart of the socially-inept, cowardly loner.   After that third or fourth listen, I was determined to listen to the rest of the albums, and while they do have a few songs that are misses, as a whole they stack up to be one of my favoritest bands.

This is a sound you may not be used to. Carlos Paredes was the greatest player of "the portuguese guitar". A guitar with a unique shape and sound. It is the main instrument on the portuguese traditional music: Fado.
