Hello all!
Lately I've been listening to many different genres on Spotify and it struck me how many music genres I'd never heard of. We all know the popular genres like Pop, Rap and Classical but who'd of thought that the list would go on and on.
I was having a conversation with a friend yesterday who introduced me to an album called Tropical 2 by BBK (Boy Better Know). The albums been knocking about for a while now since it was released back in 2011... However, I have really got into it very recently. He raised an interesting point that all the songs come under the genre of Liquid Grime. He described that this sort of music is more instrumental with longer hooks and pauses compared to mainstream grime.
I carried on my persuit to find some weird and wonderful genres which I've never heard of. When I went UKF's Dubstep page on Youtube, the comments were interesting me because people were describing what genre certain songs fell under specifically. Again, you've most likely to have listened to/heard of Dubstep, but I had no idea about genres like Chillstep, Drumstep, 2-step garage, Brostep, Reggaestep, Future garage and Bassline.
Comment below an interesting genre/sub-genre and an example tune! Lets see how many genres we can come up with!!

Hello 🙂
If you are looking for new kind of music to listen, I have something for you =3
I'm doing video games covers.
This genre is a combination of classical influences with orchestral sounds and electronic, sound effects, soundscapes + for the groove it can take all other genres. (rock, jazz, pop, metal...)
My style in this music genre is mainly orchestral with soundscapes / sound effects, I work a lot on the ambiances and the rendition.
You have here my actual 47 covers (regular updates) :

Video Games Music (VGM) is a very interesting style, you can find all kind of moods and atmospheres on it, there are about 1.800.000.000 gamers in the world + all people that are musically compatible with the style, this makes a bunch of people that could like to discover this kind of music.
VGM Covers have some great communities on YouTube, it would be great to have more official playlists of it on Spotify, most of the vgm covers artists are actually on Spotify.
With movies musics, games musics are actually the 2 genres that are taking a lot of roots in all the classical music eras adding some nowadays tools like soundscapes & sound effects. It goes from sweet melodic tracks, full ambient ones to major orchestral / choirs pieces. For example in Final Fantasy VI you have Dancing Mad and the Opera Suite which are some 12 minutes tracks with 3 movements.
Some well known orchestras are doing world tours with this kind of music, I hope more people will discover this genre 🙂
@Xenosaya8 - isn't that the cover to 'And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out' by Yo La Tengo?

Either way, that's also an album which fits into the weird and wonderful bracket of this thread.... Yo La Tengo are pretty hard to pin down. What genre are they? The 15+ albums are all pretty much different from each other.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
