Why are there less new releases during the summer?

Hi,

I was wondering why are there less new releases during the summer. During summer people have a lot of time to listen to new music, but artists don't release that much.

Is this more like an inheritance from the past? Maybe in the past people only listened at home and in the summer you are more outside. But nowadays everybody's listening using earphones and it doesn't matter where they are.

Also in the past music magazines were on holiday probably but with social media, it's easy to know about new music.

Luckily Ed Sheeran broke the trend.
