So Kendrick Lamar's highly anticipated album just dropped, and to my appreciation it's on Spotify. But thing is, I'd really like to support this artist, and hopefully make him reach platinum. Would my purchase of his album on Spotify contribute to an official count, helping him reach this goal? Would it be just as buying the album on iTunes?
Thanks!
Hey there!
This is awesome question.
I'll ask around Community if any employee can answer to this. I do not know answer.
However Spotify use a 3rd party music shop, 7 Digital.

In terms of chart placement, there are some rules that would need to be met on the artists release - This naturally depends on the country, but in the UK there are a number of different charts - including one for streaming.
In terms of being eligible for the charts, check out some of the rules here - http://www.officialcharts.com/getting-releases-into-the-charts/
In terms of money, the artist would receive a payment for each stream made of a track.
hpguru - Slight correction there! We have our own built in store now.
Hey, when you opened your own store? I don't know about it, when you opened it?
We've been selling our own tracks for over a year now 🙂
Awesome. But are those in OGG or MP3?
Thanks.
