I just down  loaded Spotify because it advertises as free, however, in order to view anything, I have to sign up and pay for premium, it that correct?

No. That's not correct. You can use Spotify for free, with advertisements. When you tap a song, album, or playlist, Spotify will play some other music mixed in with what you are trying to listen to. That's what I remember, from when I had a free account, so many years ago. With a free account, you don't get access to certain features, such as group sessions and downloading for offline listening.

Also  you might try this free trial. It's worth getting PayPal. Don't bother with the gift cards. Put your cards on PayPal, then have your payments automatically come off. If you want to cancel, do it before the date that you're supposed to be charged.
