Loving PJ Harvey and AlunaGeorge this week.  Good to see PJ back on the scene once again!

HOly moly that PJ Harvey album has some great stuff.

Almost as good as her latest England Shake release.. almost... but that's better than i could have ever hoped

Artist: Sköld

Release: The Undoing (Deluxe)
Year: new 22nd April
Labels: Metropolis Records
Style of Music: Industrial, with hard rock/metal, and electronic dance influences, adult EDM fans can get into this release very easily.
Origins: Skövde, Sweden

Tim Sköld's solo effort work. This is the artist who has been better known through his work with Shotgun Messiah, KMFDM and MDFMK, Marilyn Manson, and also off-shot music projects such as Doctor Midnight & The Mercy Cult, and Motionless in White. This release is very moody, and is also heavy with beats and electronic work throughout, a good solid release by Sköld and worth a few listens, music for those who enjoy music by MM and KMFDM in the current era.

Artist: Graham Nash
Release: This Path Tonight (Deluxe Edition)
Year: new 16th of April
Labels: Blue Castle Records
Style of Music: folk/rock
Origins: Blackpool, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom

A collection of new songs for the artist in about fourteen years, some really moving moody pieces, some really good work on this release. It is worth the time for a few listens, and it is always great to hear what Nash can do when solo.

Lineup for the release:

Couldn't agree more! Her version of Satisfaction with Bjork is still amazing!

Another release on friday April 29 is Travis' last album called Everything At Once.

I like the album, but I can't stop listening to this song. Excellent!!!

I thought I would highlight this release, even though @Soundofus already highlighted this release a week or so back in the community blog. This release, I was keeping a lookout for seems to have slipped under the radar, as the new music releases page in the apps has been wonky lately, and for some reason swarm.fm did not alert me either even though I am following the artist already. Anyway another great work by the group. This release is worth a few listens some good solid music and Martin's voice sounds as strong as ever.

Lineup for this release:

  • Dave Krusen – drums (1997–1999, 2015–present)
  • Adam Kury – bass guitar, backing vocals (2007–present); guitar (2015–present)

Artist: Filter
Release: Crazy Eyes
Year: April 8th, 2016
Labels: Wind-Up Records
Style of Music: Industrial Rock
Origins: Ohio, U.S.

Well I am a little over a month late on this release, as the release seemed to have slipped under the radar for me, even though I had been keeping up with the singles that had been released through the beginning of this year. Onto the album, so far it is a fantastic musical offering and right now my favorite tracks are Take Me to Heaven and Under The Tongue, but the whole release is a pretty solid recording throughout. With this release there is a strong Trent Reznor feel throughout this recording, which is obvious as Richard Patrick did guitar work with Reznor in NIN, and one wonders at times if Reznor had a hand in the recording and/or possibly producing of this release. If only Reznor went back to music this strong again, instead of the whimsical experimentation that he has been doing of late. Anyway this release by Filter is really worth 3,4 or even 5 good solid listens through. I bet Filter's live show is just killer on this tour.

Lineup:

This Friday on SONY MUSIC DENMARK. I don't know the genre, labels says it is commercial dance, but it has hard dance elements and then some hiphop? But label says it is some kind of mixup. I bet if you listen, you can think what the genre is for you. For me it is Hard Dance.

Hope you like it.

Artist: Destruction
Release: Under Attack
Year: May 13th, 2016
Labels: Nuclear Blast
Style of Music: Thrash Metal
Origins: Weil am Rhein, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Well a version of this band has been around for a very long time since the mid 80's Thrash Metal scenes. This new release is very good, and a few very good surprises here I think. This new release is worth a few listens and to add to Your Music to keep the release handy for quick access on Spotify devices. Four 12-track versions are available to different listening regions on the Spotify service, so check the Destruction artist page for the right version for your listening region https://open.spotify.com/artist/5d6KI8frPEo3qGsIL8Sak2. Even though this Venom song Black Metal has been covered multiple times by other bands and artists, Destruction here some how give it just that extra kick. \m/

Line Up:

Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer Bass
Mike Sifringer Lead Vocals, Guitars
Wawrzyniec "Vaaver" Dramowicz Drums, Backing Vocals

Artist: Discharge
Release: End of Days
Year: April 29th, 2016
Labels: Nuclear Blast
Style of Music: Hardcore punk/Crossover Thrash
Origins: U.K.

I am a little late on this release, as it slipped under the radar but thankfully I caught it from a notification before too much time had past. Well this release is just a high intensity high energy dose of hardcore crossover thrash, brings back memories of what this music's power was like from the early 80's. This release is well worth many listens. Four 15 track versions are available for different Spotify listening regions, Spotify users interested can check it out from the bands artist page here: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5SRhOM75OnwuXH8BmCxD5a

Artist: Zakk Wylde
Release: Book of Shadows II
Year: April 8th, 2016
Labels: Entertainment One U.S.
Style of Music: Southern Rock
Origins: New Jersey, U.S.

Ok, I know I am late for this release but that is explainable, and I have a good excuse too. The label released this very late for U.S. Spotify streaming fans for some reason, probable an attempt to boost CD and digital sales in the U.S.? The CD and some music streaming markets have had this release since April 8th, U.S. Spotify music streamers did not get it until May 6th. A good excuse ehh. 🙂

Anyway I had one listen through when this release first dropped on the 6th for the U.S. Spotify users. First up, music listeners who are fans of Zakk Wylde's musical work needs to drop all expectations or you will miss out on a very lovely beautifully made release here. This is laid back Southern rock inspired with a touch of R&B, and a bit of Soul influence in the music here. The best way to explain the music in this release here is laid back Whiskey drinking Southern rock. That about sums this up, if you are a fan of The Allman Brothers Band, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and even Joe Cocker and Jackson Browne this album is up there, with a touch of light easy blues rock thrown in with the solo work, and Zakk showcases his guitar playing skills well in this regard here. I took this weekend to listen through this release again a couple more tmes, and now I appreciate it allot more than I initial did before. I was expecting something a little more along the line with the first Book Shadows, a Southern Hard rock with some intense solo work. This music output here is way more relaxed and laid back, but it is done in a good and very satisfying way. So if you have a slow lazy Sunday with nothing better to do this music will fit well in that lazy Sunday afternoon, sipping your favorite beverage and enjoying one of the most stunning guitar players and music creators in a very long time in this World. The more I listen the better this release gets. Very bluesy and soulful.

Artist: Bloodbound
Release: One Night Of Blood, Live At Master of Rock MMXV
Year: February 12th, 2016
Labels: AFM Records, a division of Soulfood Music Distribution GmbH

Style of Music: Power Metal
Origins: Bollnäs, Sweden

A really tight live recording by the band during their last tour, Worth a few listens to fans of the musical output of the band. I rarely get caught up with live recordings as they are kind of hit and miss but this one is produced well, and has a very good mix throughout and the band sounds tight and on spot here in the songs performed. I was lucky to have an artist discography playlist sitting around the previous week, and I had a good few listens through the bands work, and I had seen this live release was new for this year. So there you are enjoy. \m/

There are two versions of this release available for Spotify users on the service so check out their artist page

Artist: Borknagar
Release: Winter Thrice
Year: January 22nd, 2016
Labels: Century Media Records
Style of Music: Folk Metal
Origins: Bergen, Norway

I am a bit way late on this release. I have this week finally gotten around to this band, and noticed there was a new release for 2016 way way in the beginning of the year that is nicely done, and one aptly titled to remind one Winter is always around the corner. Very nice and well done release, has touches of Black Metal, with heavy overtones of Folk Metal as well, some slight touches of their progressive music direction from earlier releases as well. It is worth a few good solid listens.
