I loved this week's new music. My personal favorites included Fake It (Basitlle), Better Love (Hozier), and Titus Was Born (Young the Giant).

Artist: Equilibrium
Release: Armageddon
Year: August 12th, 2016
Labels: Nuclear Blast
Style of Music: Folk Metal, Symphonic Metal, and Black Metal
Origins: Munich, Bavaria, Germany

Another strong release effort by the band that blends Black, Folk, and Symphonic metal music together to create a rather strong output this time around. Has all the right elements needed with this type of music creation blended together. Strong uplifting folk metal, and a nice even needed black metal growl, and a heavy dose of symphonic musical direction to give everything that epic feel and direction. For fans of folk, black, and symphonic music creations.

Artist: Flotsam & Jetsam
Release: Self Titled
Year: May 20th, 2016
Labels: AFM
Style of Music: Thrash/power metal
Origins: Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.

Well after many years of releases that either made hardcore fans happy or extremely confused, seems this new band lineup might have gotten back to their roots again and in fine form with this self title release. Some very nice well developed power/thrash metal here. It is looking to be a great year for thrash metal what with Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Destruction, Metal Church, Death Angel, Exhumer, and now Flotsam and Jetsam all releasing rather strong hard hitting releases over the past couple of years, bands that had been around during the early glory days of thrash metal's beginnings. One can only hope and cross their fingers Metallica's new release whenever it should surface is not a bomb this time around.

Anyway onto the release and lineup for this F&J output. There does not seem to be a weak song on this release, which is strange as founding members Kelly David-Smith and Edward Carlson left the band in 2014, that this new release would end up as such a strong effort with new members guitarist Steve Conley and drummer Jason Bittner known for his time in Shadows Fall and Toxik, new comers filling the missing void from the two previous band founders. Also bassist Micheal Spencer better known for his bass work on the classic No Place For Disgrace release has returned to the band for this release output. Power/Thrash metal fans will not be disappointed with this release at all.

Lineup for this release:

Eric A.K. Vocals
Michael Gilbert Guitars
Steve Conley Guitars
Michael Spencer Bass
Jason Bittner Drums

Artist: Soilwork
Release: Death Resonance
Year: new August 19th, 2016
Labels: Nuclear Blast
Style of Music: Metalcore, melodic death metal
Origins: Helsingborg, Sweden

A compilation of rarity tracks, some E.P. tracks, two brand new studio songs, some past rerecorded tracks and remixed tracks. A very decent collection of rare tracks here, mainly focuses on the bands metalcore direction, but the collection has a few very early tracks from the early years from the bands melodic death metal past.

Track information break down from: http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Soilwork/Death_Resonance/587395

- Tracks 1 and 2 are new songs recorded exclusively for this release.
- Track 3 is a bonus track from the Japanese version of The Ride Majestic.
- Tracks 4-8 are taken from the Beyond the Infinite EP.
- Track 9 is a bonus track from the Japanese version of The Panic Broadcast.
- Track 10 is a bonus track from the Japanese version of The Panic Broadcast (the original version appearing on 'Steelbath Suicide' in 1998) and was re-recorded between 2005-2010.
- Tracks 11-13 are bonus tracks from the Japanese version of Sworn to a Great Divide and were remixed exclusively for this release.

Artist: Powerwolf
Release: The Metal Mass - Live
Year: New August 19th, 2016
Labels: Napalm Records Handels GmbH
Style of Music: Power Metal
Origins: Saarbrücken, Saarland, Germany

A very solid live release here that captures Powerwolf in all their glory live, recorded live Turbinenhalle, Oberhausen, Germany on October 2nd 2015. I do not get all that worked up over on live releases as it is hit and miss often, but this is a very good produced live release by the band. Well worth a few listens by Powerwolf fans and power metal fans.

Release: The Depression Sessions
Year: August 12, 2016
Labels: Nuclear Blast
Style of Music: Deathcore/metalcore

This is a split E.P. of three very brutal bands in the deathcore/metalcore style of metal, each band contributes one original track, and also a cover song that has inspired the bands members from each band. For an article on the three way split E.P. release: http://www.metalinjection.net/av/fit-for-an-autopsys-song-flatlining-has-great-clean-vocals-plenty-o...

Check it out, which this is kind of cool, would be cooler if this was a full album done this way by these three bands.

Yeah I know this release is a couple of weeks past, just came across it about three days ago checking up on the artist page.

One of my favorite unknown/unsigned artists, Patternist, just released a new single this week! It's been on repeat ever since.

When will Spotify release Ghost's new ep? The single "Square Hammer" was released earlier this week but it's still not on Spotify.

@Scarthecannibal

Hello:

What is your current listening region for the Spotify service? Ghost just released on Friday the 16th, there was added the Deluxe version of Meliora which includes the 5 track E.P. Popestar, which this E.P. release also has that single. But the band Ghost is getting ready for it's U.S. tour, so some listening regions on the Spotify service might not have access to this release yet for streaming. Might double check the artist page to see if maybe just the E.P. Popestar was added for certain listening regions, separately: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1Qp56T7n950O3EGMsSl81D

There are currently two different versions of Meliora (Deluxe Edition) 15 tracks available in these Spotify listening regions: CA US

The 2nd 15 track version in these Spotify listening regions: AD AR AT AU BE BG BO BR CH CL CO CR CY CZ DE DO EC EE ES FR GB GR GT HK HN HU ID IE IT LI LT LU LV MC MT MY NI NL NZ PA PE PH PL PT PY SG SK SV TR TW UY

After double checking the Ghost artist page, I saw the Popestar E.P. showing up under the singles section of their page. There are three versions for different Spotify listening regions on the service.
