Today, 29 October, marks the 90th birthday of Omara Portuondo, former member of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club and a musical legend in her own right.

A special concert from the Teatro Sauto in Matanzas, Cuba, was livestreamed on her official Facebook page to mark this incredible milestone and to celebrate her legacy - you can watch it back here. 

I had the great fortune of seeing her perform live in 2011 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Watching this performance almost 10 years later and seeing Omara as lively as ever filled me with joy and reminded me of the undying spirit of this woman.
