Rock 'n' Roll might actually be dead... prove me wrong!

Are you a rocker?! Is rock 'n' roll dead -or are we just spinning our wheels? Are you keeping the genre alive by bringing something new to the table? Join the conversation below! Post your songs and we can talk about it!

It is not dead, although times have changed people still love rock. Only the types of rock have expanded, i.e. indie rock, surf rock, death metal and generic bands. Nowadays their is plenty of space for variety and subjectiveness, meaning that more and more bands alongside people can listen to and sing what they really enjoy.

I don't know, man. It just doesn't seem like the essence and spirit of rock are alive in the bands that are making the music anymore... The concept of standing up, rallying for something, or fighting for something has been replaced with shoe-gazing, heavy distortion, and new rock artists attempting to copy what the old rock artists have already done... but without the purpose and meaning behind the music -it's a facade... with layers and layers of subgenres now. That being said, I think I can only count on one hand the number of rock artists post 2000 that take performing seriously anymore. Tickets cost more than ever, and the band is either every-member-for-themselves-going-bananas, or they look like they are just practicing onstage... One pole or the other -no sense of unity in the performance.

It's bizarre, man.

That was a very descriptive but also insanely realistic answer. There is definitely something missing with the lack or originals in contemporay rock at the moment.

Here are a couple of rock tunes to with real drums, bass and guitar and no autotune on the vocals for consideration:

Thanks for sharing, Drew!

I listened to your jam a few times (on Spotify and also on YouTube -I was specifically looking for a vid of the Down to the Keys jam... no luck... but I found your jam under Drew Barrett - Topic)

I definitely appreciate the steel drums at the beginning, the guitar work, and the synth solo in the middle! There's also something to be said about rehearsing the voal lines enough to not utilize any kind of pitch correction (especially backing vox). Very cool, man!

*As a "rock song" genre specific... it's fine. It checks all the right boxes.

*Conceptually, the Beach Boys conquered the "get away and go to the beach" vibe way back in the 60's w/ surf rock riding on their coat-tails; David Lee Roth brought the vibe back in the 80's w/ his Crazy From The Heat EP (also including a Beach Boys cover)

*The instrumentation -again is technically fine- there's just nothing new or innovative -again, even though steel drums aren't heard much in rock music anymore, the Beach Boys definitely did that!

*Does it capture a rejuvenated essence & spirit of rock 'n' roll in 2019? Not so much. It's structurally a new a song  with new chords and new melody, but the "feel good vibes of getting away and going to the beach" w/ a rock feel has been done many times before.

It's not a bad song -it's just not anything brand new. It's a solid nod to what's been created by multiple rock artists over time -spanning as far back as the 1960's and that's SUPER cool!

Stay legendary and keep making music!

Best of luck!

It isn't dead. It is changing!

Can you elaborate?

I agree it is DEAD, well at the moment anyway... That's why me and my friend started a band. Our objective is to simply express ourselves in the most real way possible. Check out our song. Listen closely to the lyrics. We poured our heart into this one I hope you connect with it as much as we do. Btw we don't use autotune because nothing sounds as sterile as a pitch perfect vocal. You can't hear emotions unless you show a little imperfection...

It's also coming back to being better, like it used to be.

Follow me

I sometimes think that, too, but then I hear music like this (below), and realize it's not. I also look to the fact that a good amount of classic bands are still playing.

This is a supergroup of three guys from bands like Whitesnake, Night Ranger, Journey and others.

Well after that couple songs I need to speak for my self, I do believe it’s really alive but is in constant mutation, changing all the time, maybe it’s never going to be the same even when sometimes sales to come back that old and wonderful sound, I’m working in a Playlist not exactly rock and roll but close in #HotStuffVol2019 this are my top 10 tracks that I listen every week updated every Thursday
