The Girl from Ipanema

The Girl from Ipanema

Hey guys!

Frank Sinatra and Tom Jobim are my favorite singers, and interestingly, they are both great artists around the world.

And, even more curious, they have both sung several songs together, but today I want to share my - and certainly one of the best known - favorite song: Garota de Ipanema (The Girl from Ipanema).

Bossa Nova is a musical heritage born on Rio de Janeiro soil, derived from samba and with a mixture of foreign influences: a noble and proud progenitor of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB). This musical current stood out in the mid-1950s, a time close to the release of “Garota de Ipanema”. Its soft melodies are accompanied by poetic lyrics, which match the artistic soul of Rio. It's no surprise that the best-known songs in this genre are marked by delicate lyrics that convey sincere feelings.

“Look what a beautiful thing, more full of grace, she is, girl, who comes and goes, in a sweet swing on the way to the sea”. Anyone who has heard this famous song knows that its inspiration came from the beautiful Ipanema Beach. But, in fact, the carioca Helô Pinheiro, who walked towards the coastal waters, was the true inspirational muse of the composition and which gave rise to the name “The Girl from Ipanema”.

You can listen to my favorite version of "Garota de Ipanema".

Beautiful version indeed, although, in my humble opinion, nothing beats the 1964 Getz/Gilberto version, with the beautiful voice of the late Astrud Gilberto.
