What's the first album you ever bought?

Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory.

I was about 10 when the album came out. Buying a CD as a 10 year old is no laughing matter - this was the most amount of money I’d ever spent on anything. Having absolutely no concept of money, it was hard to hand over £10-15. It was a financial crisis!

In The End (great pun), I decided to buy it, and oh boy was it a good purchase! I’d heard a few singles from the album, and couldn’t wait to get going on the full thing. I put some fresh batteries in my walkman, inserted the CD, and pressed play. Boom! Papercut, here we go!

I’m not going to go into details about the album itself, as I’m fairly sure 99% of humans on earth have heard it. If you haven’t heard it, it might be too late. What I will say is the album changed my view on music. No longer was music that thing that my parents listened to - now I had my own music! This album was the fuel for many of my short lived careers in skateboarding, BMXing, bass guitar, and that one time I tried to make my own energy drink to sell.

I was late to the CD game, so the first album I actually purchased was Black Holes and Revealations by Muse.

💁😂

Well I guess someone had to buy it 😂😂

My first album was Daft Punk's Random Access Memories in 2013. At 13, I was a excited Daft Punk fan for the new album, and still today I'm listening to RAM!

I liked boy bands when I was 8 not exactly sure why I don't remember but this the first album I bought with my own money https://open.spotify.com/album/7K5qlneuWF1CcY6ERzwkLB

The first album I bought, this means something. I'd gotten a few vinyls as gifts before, but it's not the same thing when you take the hard earned pennies (or not - my small fortune had been pilfered from an unsupervised purse - sorry mom!) and invest the whole of it in a precious pitch black spiral. Or k7, in my case.

Ozzy Osbourne's Speak Of The Devil was my first choice.

I had to order it, small town oblige. And when I finally got it, it was a bit of a disappointment at first - at school, the cool kids were listening to Crazy Train and Over The Mountain, and I guess I thought that all the songs I liked would magically appear on any album I purchased. Also, I was totally ignorant of Black Sabbath. But this was now my k7, and I was gonna be into it, no matter the cost. I didn't earn my place with the cool kids, but I did learn all I could about the tribulations of Black Sabbath and their changing lead singers. Never regretted that album.

Bought it early '90's. Still love it. Can't wait to see them live again in a couple of weeks.

I was 10 when I bought this as my first cassette.

I think mine was Celine Dion. The album came out in 1993, but I bought it when I was about 8 in 1997. Still listen to it to this day.

On cassette: Madonna's 'True Blue.'

On CD: Stone Temple Pilots' 'Purple.' Paid $27 for it too, and didn't love it as much as their first album, 'Core.'
