I just found a song that spurred me to finally want to post: Whole by Prevailing Providence.

No contrivance to say that a lot of my playlists make themselves; my favorite songs are often spread throughout. I'm always thinking about, adding to and making new ones - doing what i can to edit flow but can only do so much on mobile (ahem).

Very Varied. Beware and warned but also welcome.

Whole is a nice inspiring song, the opposite of the brostep and melodic metalcore Spotify labeled my predominant tastes as.

I share one of my shorter playlists, please peruse if so inclined.

Got it. Followed. Look forward to listening. I have a feeling it won't disappoint. Gonna let it grow on me.

What follows is my description of this list (in which time moves backwards, which is fitting), as it is worth doing so, especially due to the polarizing presentation - the list of references i point out is by no means complete:

Opens with Jaw Breaker's - the original, metal tribute to Ed, Edd n Eddy - That's My Horse, the shortest song, to have the lyrics apparent and also to not instantly slam, starting with accordion, as Rolf would.

The (()John()) Candy's Funky **bleep** Loving opens with John Candy's line from Rookie of the Year hence the title (it's another quote) - samples I Will Always Love You towards the end. Ends with "Let's play some ball!" and the vocalist singing a high note out of character, because this is to have fun, 'member?

Benny "the Jet" Rodriguez is based on The Sandlot; opens with Squints saying "Play Ball!" and it samples This Magic Moment amazingly, like a Bill McClintock mashup. Ends with the lyrics "These moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain. These magic moments can't last forever, so now it's time to die." Because yeah. Squints saying "the legend of the beast" sends us to the next song.

"Can't haunt the soul of a boy who was Raised By Wolves," throws you back in time into the shoes of... i cannot be certain which character from the Edses.. maybe Jonny, who was always (")alone(")(Plank though). Ahhh but i just realized while typing, the lyric "Dorks," so that'd be Kevin then.

Dangerous Places opens with "You two characters [the two artists in this playlist] are going to Top Gun." Samples Highway to the Danger Zone throughout. Ends with "You can be my wingman anytime**bleep**, you can be mine!"

"So what are you doing back? Well, i set back and thought about the things we used to do. It really meant a lot to me.. you mean a lot to me. I really mean that much to you? Girl, You Know It's Korn Squeaky," from the Milli Vanilli song of course (i dont think id ever heard it before this). This was the one that made me a fan of the group with no regrets, was the third i heard. Features some Korn-esque scatting towards the end and ends with a dial tone.

Die Hard's John McLane opens with his call to the emergency line, asking if it sounds like he's ordering a pizza. Ends with Let It Snow.

A Christmas Story's tribute You'll Shoot Your Eye Out reminds that you're the young kid watching the movies. In the Air Tonight gets sampled. The line from Angels with Even Filthier Souls (the fake film-within-a-film from Home Alone 2) closes the song.

Arnold (and Sinbad) ask(s) about TurboMan at the beginning of Corona's Virus. Jingle All the Way quotes throughout.. but the harsh reality still seeps into this escapism.

Quarantime of My Life samples a lot of little bits from The Time of my Life, Hot Dog, Bulls On Parade, Blind, Twist, and from Jim Carrey's The Mask. Not themed on a particular movie or character like most of their songs... covid coverage sure is everywhere. Ends with "I can't stand or take this anymore."

B.B.S. begins with a brief respite of easy listening, followed by a weird count and a plea for the simpler days of youth (so still meta). I've Got The Power gets sampled (Bulls On Parade again too) and probably some others i'm ignorant of. A quote "Good artists borrow, great artists steal" reflects on the nature of a sample-based band. Bittersweet Symphony concludes.

Mrs. Noogieburger
is the
Dumb & Dumber
song.
(Does not take full advantage of the setup "wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?" imo (which is actually a good thing))

We're Not Gonna Pump Up the Jam samples what you'd expect.

Shooter McGavin - i only recognize Carry On Wayward Son.

October 31st -  their
first
official video:
https://youtu.be/EnWcrmF75EA

The Unsolved Mystery of Clare County
from The Great Outdoors,
starring their namesake.

The BioExorcist is the Beetlejuice song, the second one i listened to, the longest song here and one of their best. Beetlejuice sends us on with "I won't do two shows a night anymore."

Jaw Breaker returns with Something Wicked,
which is enigmatic as far as i can tell.

Ecto Cooler  was the first song i heard from TJC - i actively searched for it for the "ask any question, answer with a song" thread; is the Ghostbusters song, starts probably the roughest of any but it's for the sake of a joke ("suck in the guts guys, we're the Ghostbusters"). Samples the theme song brilliantly. It's placement in the list makes Beetlejuice's claim true.

This Feeling is Eddy's song: greed. Features seagulls and a coin flipping, one of the only instances of sound effects used by Jaw Breaker (unfortunate, considering that was one of the best aspects of the show).

$122.50 + Tip is the Home Alone song (that being the tab for the pizza), opens with the worst scene from the movie. Has probably one of my most favorite breakdowns/grooves/whatever of all time (they posted a teaser to youtube with no vocals, it's just that best part https://youtu.be/sXLYwn_WDPM), i can't not bob and weave when i hear it.

Camp Hope i'm not sure about, sounds like Ben Stiller getting mad regarding a fat camp for kids. Lyrics refer to Poe's The Raven.

Mr. Dumpling i dunno either, somebody flexing on Chuck Norris.

Son of the Shepherd has Rolf return to flex too.

Irv Blitzer
is the
Cool Runnings song.
(Pride and Power)

That's Not A Knife has the man himself say it.

Carson City is only on this list because of the weird coincidences i noticed while setting this list up. As it's nostalgia-based: my group of friends in school consisted of a johnny, a tyler, (another jon) and a carson. I picked that song particularly because it kinda sounds like Dated (another artist i recently became a fan of) and because it's such an unknown artist (though with their content and image, might not be a stretch why) - regardless of any of it, i simply like the artist's name (contrary to what one might think with my taste in tunes).

Tyler the Milkbreather
is the
Fight Club song
(back to flexing after that short breather)

Johnny Utah
is the
Point Break song
(the little "oh" from Keanu at the beginning gets me every time)

Party On opens with "is this the real life" from Bohemian Rhapsody, i don't know much else (i guess it's Wayne's World) but it ends with a sample from The Simpsons radio, a crazed howl from Jim Carrey, and a burp. So, indeed.

Lean, Mean, Fighting Machine opens with a John Candy monologue with what sounds like the Terminator theme in the background (like their masks). Ends with one of the band member's saying as themselves "i think i only messed up a couple times."

Finding myself down another spotify rabbit-hole at least 40 artists deep (catalogued in my "q³" list), i found this song and artist and was blown away. Several different styles all mashed into one: Static-X, Korn and several other influences apparent in the vocals - progressive metal with synths, a choir and whatnot. Not to mention (what i find to be) the clever artist name, they've just one other release. A hidden gem.

And while i'm at it, talkin' about several different styles all mashed into one:

I do my best to be tolerant and open-minded towards giving pretty much any song or artist a chance to be heard... i just came across the artist Latimer and could only suffer (indeed) through two songs before deciding "not for me."

Some kind of "weird ambient (but agressive) drone with meditative t(r)appings," though i would be curious as to how effective it would be for that or even what the intent/message is with this project (the song titles are incredibly hard to parse).

This is noteworthy because the related artists shown (to this one, with 67 monthly listeners, granted) include King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin 🤣

Landon Tewers is a little too poppy for me to want to throw a follow quite yet but another genre-bridging artist who might could get more into heavier music

Grim Salvo was brought to my attention in another thread; knew of the artist Made Up Language beforehand but learnt from youtube that the latter produced a few of the former's tracks

I dont know of another song that samples Eminem; admittedly i find this one a little rough around the edges - samples a few of his old songs, in so doing it sometimes feel shoe-horned, more "best fit," like the beat wasnt made for it per se
