3-dot menu on Now Playing View crashes iOS app

Hey folks!

We're getting reports that accessing the song menu (3-dot menu) on NPV is causing the app to crash on iOS devices. This is being looked into.

Hey folks,

We're happy to announce that this should now be fixed for everyone - just make sure you're running the latest version of Spotify.

If you're still having trouble, make sure to post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Cheers!

Hey folks,

This should now be resolved 🙂

Make sure your apps are up to date and, in case you spot this again, try removing your cached data or performing a complete clean reinstall of the app.

Should the issue remain, let us know what your device is, alongside its OS version and your Spotify app version.
Cheers!

I’ve been experiencing the same issue as well. Did every possible solution already and yes my software/iOs is the latest that old iPhones are currently at. It’s frustrating; hope they fix this bug soon.

Details:

iPhone 7 Plus

iOs 15.8.3

Spotify Version 8.9.96.547

Happening to me too! Every single time. I can press other things on the screen but not the 3 dots or sleep timer

Same here with iPhone 13, iOS 16.5.1(c). Exact same issue as described

If you want a workaround to adding songs to playlists via searching; click the name of the song on the "now playing" screen to go to the songs album, then you can click the 3 buttons next to the song there

Hi folks,

Thanks for the replies.

Since there's several reports about this same behaviour now, we'd like to gather as much info as we can to take a closer look.

Could you please provide us the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on iPhone?
  • When did this start happening?
  • The exact models and iOS versions of all your affected devices
  • The exact Spotify Versions you use.
  • If any of you can possibly make a video of the behaviour, that would be very helpful. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

  • I went and tested on an iPad Air 2, running iPadOS 15.8.3, an iPhone 14 running iOS 18.1.1, an iPhone 12 Pro also running iOS 18.1.1 and an early 2014 MacBook Air running macOS 11.7.10 and the issue did not happen. These devices were all using the latest Spotify version (8.9.96.547)
  • The issue started happening on the 7th of December 2024.
  • The only affected device I have tested on that is encountering this bug is my iPhone 8 running iOS 16.7.10.
  • I am using Spotify version 8.9.96.547 on my iPhone 8

Here is a link to a screen recording of the crash. The moment the music stops playing is when I press the three dots. Unfortunately the recording didn't pick up the static as well. (link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/nu6lo4kp91x60ll/RPReplay_Final1733735928.mov/file

i do not currently have video of this issue but upon researching, this is not a new issue to Spotify as people from 3, 5 & 9 years ago have complained about the same issue. Please fix this soon!

I have already tried uninstalling and installing the app and restarting my phone. Did not fix the problem.
