[All Platforms] Music keeps un-downloading

(iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy 9, Macbook Pro late 2016)

Operating System

(iOS 10, Android Oreo, Windows 10,etc.)

My Question or Issue

I am soon unsubscribing to this app. I’m paying money for the premium and my songs keep un-downloading. This has happened at least 3 times or more now in the past year. Soon as I get some play list I like, I’ll go into the app on a day where I’m out of service and don’t have data. All the songs will be gone, unable to play because the download erased. Very very frustrating. Seeing how I’m paying for that service and not getting it.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for reporting this and providing us all the relevant info.

We've passed your details on to our developers and they have already rolled out several improvements to fix the experience reported.

We are aware that some users do still experience issues with their downloads, but our tech teams weren't able to reproduce it and this seems to be affecting specific devices or setups, so we're unable to find a solution remotely.

We're continuously improving the app and optimizing it, so we recommend keeping an eye out for future updates to the app, but can't guarantee this will fix the issue.

For now, we'd like to provide some steps which we hope might help:

  • Check out the steps on our support page here
  • Try disabling WiFi assist
  • Check for any settings that could affect the Spotify background data
  • Change the quality of the downloads in the Spotify app

We’d also recommend you try a clean reinstall, which will remove any corrupt data from your device. Just a heads-up, this will remove all your downloads and you'll have to download everything again for offline listening.

Happened to me again this morning as well. Went to play an album I had downloaded previously and I had to download it again.

This problem has existed for a long time. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app every time there’s a problem  is not an effective solution, it’s a cop out. Every time we reinstall the app we have to download all of our music again. That’s a very long and laborious task for most of us. We need a proper solution.

I'm having this problem every time I update Spotify. Seriously ready to uninstall, cancel, and find another app because of how ridiculous this is getting. My phone is online every single day. I can't keep downloading 60 GB of music every other week because of Comcast datacaps.

Same issue happened on my phone. The songs which downloaded to my Library will be wiped automatically after a certain period of time. It frustrates me a lot especially when the network condition is not good. Please advise what I should do to fix it. Thanks.

Randomly undownloads different albums/playlists whenever and unpredictably.

I am sick and tired of this issue. It has been happening to me continually on numerous generations of iPhones. It’s patently NOT a cache issue. It is something at your end. I echo other posts when I say FIX IT or you will lose subscriptions!

I just went to play my largest playlist to find that I need to download it all again with the exception of some random songs within the playlist that, for some reason, are still downloaded. I’ve had this playlist downloaded to my phone for years and add to it all the time.  I’m on a mobile connection so, re-downloading simply isn’t possible. It's far too large.

I’m sick of this repeated problem, which apparently, has no solution.

Heyho

I got the same problem yesterday and today.

All downloaded songs were gone and the download didn't start. I had to reinstall the app.

While having this problem I could not play any song, even I had very good internet.

I hope they will fix it soon, otherwise I have to find another app and cancel my subscription...

Same problem. All my saved artists are gone and every playlist undownloaded. If this is not fixed by Jan 1,2021 I’ll be switching to another platform. I’ve been with Spotify since day 1. Very very disappointing.

This happens to me on all of my devices constantly. I’ve tried logging out and deleting the app but nothing has helped.
