[All Platforms] Music keeps un-downloading

(iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy 9, Macbook Pro late 2016)

Operating System

(iOS 10, Android Oreo, Windows 10,etc.)

My Question or Issue

I am soon unsubscribing to this app. I’m paying money for the premium and my songs keep un-downloading. This has happened at least 3 times or more now in the past year. Soon as I get some play list I like, I’ll go into the app on a day where I’m out of service and don’t have data. All the songs will be gone, unable to play because the download erased. Very very frustrating. Seeing how I’m paying for that service and not getting it.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for reporting this and providing us all the relevant info.

We've passed your details on to our developers and they have already rolled out several improvements to fix the experience reported.

We are aware that some users do still experience issues with their downloads, but our tech teams weren't able to reproduce it and this seems to be affecting specific devices or setups, so we're unable to find a solution remotely.

We're continuously improving the app and optimizing it, so we recommend keeping an eye out for future updates to the app, but can't guarantee this will fix the issue.

For now, we'd like to provide some steps which we hope might help:

  • Check out the steps on our support page here
  • Try disabling WiFi assist
  • Check for any settings that could affect the Spotify background data
  • Change the quality of the downloads in the Spotify app

We’d also recommend you try a clean reinstall, which will remove any corrupt data from your device. Just a heads-up, this will remove all your downloads and you'll have to download everything again for offline listening.

Same problem here at Android, the songs disappear and I need to use my mobile data to listen it.

Who will pay this billing?

I’m also having this same issue. It’s been the same problem on multiple devices, all latest versions of the app. I’ll open my phone and 1000s of songs are just completely undownloaded. Tried reinstalling, nothing works. Like I said, it’s been a problem across multiple devices over several years. It’s an issue on Spotify’s behalf that they have simply never addressed or even attempted to fix. Honestly what am I paying premium for if I can’t even save my songs? Ridiculous.

Hi, my Spotify keeps pausing and I’ve tried almost everything people have suggested. I’ve changed my password, I’ve done a clean  uninstall and reinstall (cleaning my cache etc), restarted my phone, tried playing on different devices. Nothing has worked! It’s been like this for a couple of weeks so it can’t be my phone as I’ve used the app for awhile now (iphone xs) with no issues. This is so frustrating. I don’t know what else to do!

Finally Spotify seem to have acknowledged what we all knew for ages: their service is broken and charges for a product that does not deliver.

If downloads are unworkable (which they currently are), then Spotify is barely better than an internet radio station and alot more expensive.

This needs sorting, Spotify. I'll keep an eye on this issue but until there is an actual fix, I'm going to leave your service for a competitor. Let's hope they don't convince me to stay with them.

Dec 30 2020.  Using a Samsung S9 and a PC (Surface Pro 4, I lost all downloaded material from both devices last week, probably at the same time, but certainly within a day or so of each other.

This was 90% classical maintained with regular (daily at work) internet log-on, and the devices were synced and maintained.  No hardware faults or other events.

This is a major problem for significant downloads, as I do not have internet access at home other than expensive cell phone service (the usual poor internet service to Canadian regions outside large cities).

Ideas to prevent this are welcome!

Why is this issue still being worked on? It's been going on for more than 5 years. Here is the error on my MacBook OS 10.15.7. (and I've already done the clean install of Spotify)

As you can see from the top bar, I'm connected to WiFi. The error happens (not always) after my MacBook is sleeping without closing Spotify. To fix the error I mus always restart Spotify.

I bought a new Samsung Galaxy S10 in September. The issues have been constant, especially in the last month. Almost every time I open the app, all my downloaded playlists have been un-downloaded. I completely rely on my downloaded music because I have very limited WiFi and no phone signal in my area, and am often away from WiFi. More often than not I don't have the ability to play my own music that I pay for and can't re-download it. This is totally unacceptable. I've tried clearing cache, uninstalling, logging in and out etc. App is on auto-update. Everything that has been suggested in this thread. It seems to be a common problem and it needs to be fixed.

I am also having a lot of issues, I have tried all the suggested fixes but none of it is working.  It is very frustrating as I pay for premium also and am getting way less than premium service.  I am looking at alternatives as well, not worth the money at this stage.

EDIT TO ADD: I am having issues on android, ipad and pc, so clearly the problem isn't fixed.  All I am asking is that the music I download on one device is available on another.  It is all the same account so surely it shouldn't be that hard.  Plus no more dropping out when playing or my music disappearing without warning.  Bring back Google Play, it never gave me a day of grief ever.

still having this problem in 2021 this is ridiculous
