[All Platforms] Music keeps un-downloading

(iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy 9, Macbook Pro late 2016)

Operating System

(iOS 10, Android Oreo, Windows 10,etc.)

My Question or Issue

I am soon unsubscribing to this app. I’m paying money for the premium and my songs keep un-downloading. This has happened at least 3 times or more now in the past year. Soon as I get some play list I like, I’ll go into the app on a day where I’m out of service and don’t have data. All the songs will be gone, unable to play because the download erased. Very very frustrating. Seeing how I’m paying for that service and not getting it.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for reporting this and providing us all the relevant info.

We've passed your details on to our developers and they have already rolled out several improvements to fix the experience reported.

We are aware that some users do still experience issues with their downloads, but our tech teams weren't able to reproduce it and this seems to be affecting specific devices or setups, so we're unable to find a solution remotely.

We're continuously improving the app and optimizing it, so we recommend keeping an eye out for future updates to the app, but can't guarantee this will fix the issue.

For now, we'd like to provide some steps which we hope might help:

  • Check out the steps on our support page here
  • Try disabling WiFi assist
  • Check for any settings that could affect the Spotify background data
  • Change the quality of the downloads in the Spotify app

We’d also recommend you try a clean reinstall, which will remove any corrupt data from your device. Just a heads-up, this will remove all your downloads and you'll have to download everything again for offline listening.

Using 8.5.86.739 on an iPad with iOS 14.3

Removal of downloads coincided with deleting safari browser data on order to make it work better, I wasn’t sure if the removal was triggered by this but have also posted on the apple support community

It's been the third time within the last few weeks 90% of my downloaded library disappears - some artists I just have to click the Download button and the green mark appears, but most of them require full download from scratch, which takes forever for my library. That is from the Artists page in My Library menu, the Albums one is completely gone and doesn't have the downloaded green sign on any album, unless I go into it and "re-download" it. But it's already there, why is it not showing up?

Very, very frustrating issue that keeps coming back and I can't seem to find a pattern or a solution, in order to prevent it.

I continue to stay baffled on the lack of severity/priority on the issue from Spotify's side. It has existed for ages now, impacting countless users across all platforms, and nothing is being done about it whatsoever, or so it seems. Guess it's time for me too to start looking at alternatives, as the market is saturated with them nowadays.....

Do you have any idea when this will be fixed? I work out where I have low signal all the time and I took time out of my evening to sit and download all my music to my phone. Then when I get out there, it all is not downloaded even though I saw with my own two eyes the app say “Download Complete”. I’m using an iPhone 11 Pro Max, iOS version 14.3, Spotify app version 8.5.86.739. What is the point of paying for a service to download music on my phone for when I have no signal if the app is just gonna lie to me and say my music downloaded when it didn’t?

Hi, like the others here (& many other threads dedicated to this well-documented bug), I am plagued by the same problem. I live & work in the mountains where I do not have reliable access to download capabilities via cell service, or the internet. I have a library of ~1000 songs downloaded for offline use while I am in the mountains. This is my principal reason & sole justification for paying for Spotify Premium. I often play my downloaded songs while in airplane mode without any issue. However, I have noticed that when my phone dies while I am off-grid, upon restart my Spotify downloads have been completely wiped & I am notified that I must "go online" to download & listen. Unfortunately, this happens fairly often because I live in a place where it is often far below freezing temperatures (phone battery freezes, I warm it up, reboot).

I honestly can't believe this hasn't been resolved yet. I have not posted about this problem before because I assumed that a bug this large would be fixed quickly... Enough is enough. I don't think I can handle having my entire library wiped another time while I am in the middle of nowhere.

Like everyone else here, I have tried every possible "solution" mentioned on this thread or any of the dozens of threads dedicated to this very well-documented & known issue on Spotify's forums, Reddit, etc.

I totally understand and agree with what you are saying. I think it is an absolute disgrace that Spotify are taking our money but not providing the service they advertise. Although I am not in your circumstances, I am also at my wits end to know what to do next.

Glad I found this thread! (Thought I was going crazy) Over the past 6 months, I’ve had music delete / disappear from my phone over a dozen times and I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app 3 times. This is infuriating and worth canceling my Premium service and switching to another provider. (I’ve been a premium member for years but this has become a headache).

Hi,

Again totally agree but do not know what to do about it ,,,,!!!!!!!!

I can't believe how long it's taking for a response from Spotify about this. I can't keep downloading the same music over and over.

Can anyone recommend an alternative music service? I've been looking at Apple Music. It seems very similar to Spotify with curated playlists etc and they seem to have more music. I was wondering if anyone has tried it or any of Spotify's competitors?
