[Android] I play a song but no music can be heard

Good morning. I have a premium account. And today when I wanted to listen to a song I clicked on it, waited and no music came out but the song in the bar was still running. So I clicked on another song and the same thing happened. So I sped the song up and music could be heard. But when I tried speeding it up again you couldn't hear it. This is all in my phone, I'm not using bluetooth sprakers or anything. I really don't know what's wrong. It worked fine yesterday and I didn't change the settings between yesterday and today. Also I tried restarting my phone. And deleting the app and reinstalling it again but nothing! Please help I would like to fix this since it is quite troublesome.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We’re happy to say that this should now be fixed for everyone! Just make sure your app is updated to the latest version.

If you're still having trouble, make sure to post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks!

Hey! I used to have this problem with two songs but I fixed the first song by updating the app and I fixed the second one by downloading it and then removing it (from my downloads). Here's my info, hope it helps someone!

• Exact Spotify Version: 8.6.2.772 (previously outdated by a version, updating it fixed half the issues)

• Phone: Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) / Android Version 9 (Pie)

•  Last happened: 19th February 2021, 01:00 GMT

• I am using an SD card

• It happened with Billie Jean by Michael Jackson (muted at 0:02) and Gasoline (feat. Taylor Swift) by HAIM (muted at 1:30). The songs would mute and would stay muted unless I skipped forward in the song.

• I was playing both songs online, but downloading Gasoline fixed it, so even after I removed (un-downloaded) it, it was still perfectly playable.

• I hadn't checked whether it happened on data before the issues were fixed, but I was playing them on WiFi originally.

• I've tried updating the app and downloading the songs, both of which fixed each song respectively.

EDIT: Also, I was just using wire earphones, no bluetooth.

Good luck if anyone's still trying to fix this 🙂

Hey folks,

We really appreciate you continuing to add your +VOTES in this thread to let us know you're experiencing this!

Rest assured that our teams are still looking into this.

As a heads up, we've updated the Status Update to include some questions that would help out the investigation backstage.

If you're still having troubles and the troubleshooting steps there did not help, please let us know the info requested so we can pass them along.

It'd be also very helpful if you could include a screenrecording of the issue as it happens as this can be very valuable when trying to reproduce things on our end. Just make sure that no private or sensitive info is displayed.

We'll be keeping an eye out for your replies, thank you 🙂

**bleep**, I can't find a way to post**bleep** anywhere on Spotify Help; so can someone post this for me?

So basically I moved to South Korea last year, and have been using Spotify as my main source of music streamer.

Now that I don't have any CC from the States, I'm forced to pay with Korean money. This is totally fine for me, but when I'm paying the same money for the SAME service, I'm limited to certain things? That's insane. Firstly, I can't even **bleep**ing log-in through a laptop/PC from the South Korea Spotify system. You know what's more **bleep**ed up? They don't **bleep**. Secondly, I love listening to music and for **bleep** sake, who said "Let's disable all the explicit songs for South Koreans!" **bleep**, there's no **bleep**ing option to disable or allow explicit songs on SOUTH KOREAN SPOTIFY?!?!?!?!?

AM I GOING INSANE? Like c'mon start working you lazy piece of shits.

Sorry for the rant, but you guys deserve every bit of it.

I am using ios 14.4

I have done the following and the music still keeps on pausing.

1. Cleared the cache

2. Went to iphone storage and offloaded the app

3. restarted my iphone

4. redownloaded the app

Same problem persists. I have also tried logging out of all devices and logging back in. That doesn't help either.

My wife is having a similar issue on her Doro 8040 Android phone - it was working fine last week, now when using the app the only way we can get sound is to Chromecast it to a Google speaker. When trying to use the phone's internal speakers, or headphones, or Bluetooth devices the progress bar just sits still even though Spotify thinks it's playing. The web player continues to work fine. Have uninstalled / reinstalled, cleared cache etc. all to no avail.

The issue seemed to have been fixed for a while but it started happening again this last week. Don't know what else to do. I have already tried all the troubleshooting steps mentioned here to no avail. 😞

I have the same problem on my Android music player I posted a new thread yesterday as I didn’t realise this was a major issue as my other devices are all Apple and my computer all work fine.

Just to confirm I can do anything else in the app apart from the most important thing which is play/listen to any music

I have tried all the usual steps and nothing works no music at all - my other devices think it is playing but no sound and the song timer won’t move

I’ve spent a lot of money on a dedicated music player and if Spotify won’t play on it I will need to seriously consider cancelling my premium subscription

I have the same issue - songs appearing to play but no actual audio. It happens at random intervals, but I have noticed that at least some of the time it happens when I've paused Spotify in order to listen to something else briefly (a voice message from a friend, or something on social media for example), and then return to Spotify.

Status changed to: Under investigation

Hey folks,

We're continuing to see reports from users saying that this still isn't fixed for them.

If this is the case, would you mind providing us with the following info:

  • Your device and OS version
  • The exact Spotify version running on that device
  • The steps to reproduce this issue and a description of what happens

Once we have that, we can pass it on to the team who's looking into this.

Cheers!
