[Android] Podcasts not saving playback location

Recently started using Spotify for podcasts.  I cannot understand how the podcast player is so horrible.  Three times today I have had my podcast location not be saved and the episode I am on starts from the beginning.  I've never seen issues like this for the music player.  Is this normal or is everyone just dealing with this?

My Question or Issue

I listen to podcasts on my commutes. For an hour long podcast that means 2 or three sessions to complete listening. 50% of the time when I end my drive the position within the podcast is lost. My device doesn't forget that I am listening to that episode, it even syncs that with my desktop. When I go to resume the episode it starts from the beginning. Most of the time I don't even manually resume the episode, the player connects to bluetooth in my car and continues playing the last thing I was listening to. This doesn't only happen with auto-play in my car. The same thing will happen when I resume from my desktop and has happened when listening to podcasts when I go running. The common theme is lost position within an episode after pausing longer listening sessions.

First, we'd recommend trying a clean reinstall of the app on your device by following the steps here.

 

If after that you’re still experiencing the issue, could you provide us with the following info:

  • device + OS version
  • exact Spotify version
  • Does this happen only after terminating the app, or does it also happen if you leave it in the background?

Once we have that, we will pass it on to the relevant team, who will look further into it.

This still seems to be a problem. There are numerous other threads reporting the same thing going back to at least 2018. This is a major bug on basic functionality. I hope you will fix.
