This is definitely a widespread issue. I've seen threads on 4-5 forum sites dating back to mid-2012 .

For me, one of two things happens nearly every time I'm using the Spotify app on my Galaxy S3 to play through my car. (Note that I did this with the same car, same Bluetooth setup, only an iPhone 4, and it worked fine.)

  1. Song stops playing. I have to wake my phone up for it to continue.
  2. (Probably related to the bug that causes #1) After 1 or 2 songs on, say, a 100-song playlist, the app switches to ONLY playing the songs on that playlist that I've downloaded to my phone (even though there is ample 4G signal). If I haven't downloaded any of the songs on that playlist to my phone, well, then it stops playing period.

One of the causes is definitely my phone's screen turning off. But there has to be a way around that. If I'm driving for a long time, I can't have my phone's screen on the full time, battery wasting away.

Hope this helps. But I'm guessing from forum thread volumes that thousands of S3 owners are experiencing this issue.

I'm going to echo this problem. For me the issue is when I'm listening to my playlist, it'll play a song or two and then just stop. I can go to the phone and manually skip the song, and then it will play another song or two before the problem returns. This is a major problem considering I use Spotify when I'm driving all the time.

It's not a signal issue as it often happenes in area with strong 4G. Also I notice it doesn't happen if I listen to an album, only when I play from my playlist.

I have 4 samsung devices; s2, s3 (which is my phone), tab2 10.1", tab2 7" - all rooted. the spotify app works flawlessly on the tablets but is whack on the phones. I thought about it and the only difference is I have CPU Tuner running on my phones. I uninstalled it and the phones appear to be working flawlessly as well. It is possible that if you are modifying cpu settings or custom kernel modules / custom kernel this will cause spotify to become upset with you. I use the rooted feature primarily to use 64gb sd cards and run the led on my s3 (and a few other things). to get spotify working I couldn't care less about cpu "tweaking"

I listen to spotify all night when I'm asleep and so far no problems at all.

I hope this helps the developers; I am willing to do what I can to help solve this problem. I really like the spotify app.

My question for another place would be: how do I get spotiy to download playlists to my gigntic sd cards and not the internal sd card? If I was able to help with this problem maybe someone could help me with that one 🙂

happy spotifying!

I have a similar problem. My playlist is dowloaded to my galaxy s3, and it stops after 30 secs of playing, then if i go to spotify, it loads again and indicates its in the middle (1/3) of another random song in the same playlist. It goes back to that same 1/3 of the same song everytime it stops. It will be a new song if I close the app and open it again. Plus, I have 2 other playlists downloaded as well, but they won't play. I have to pause the song and start it again, and then same thing. It stops, and it goes to a random song at 1/3 of it, in the first playlist. Some other times I can play playlist one without any problems for an hour. But never playlists 2 & 3.

I second the annoyance. However in my case it was working fine until the last update. Plays one or two songs and then stops. The screen shows the last song played, the Play icon but if I tap it, it goes to a black screen with 0.01 min remaining. I use my back button to go back to my playlists (don't have premium) and click on Radio for my selected playlist and we go back around and around.

I have a Samsung S3. Nothing has changed except for the update.

A similar thing happens to me, but on my brower.  After the first song or two the next songs will either stop playing and be skipped over, or they will "play" (as in the progress bar will keep going along) but no sound comes out.

I'm having similar troubles on my HTC One X. I'm listening to my playlist that I've downloaded, usually in offline mode when the music will just stop. I'll get my phone out and look at the app and it'll show that the track is stuck at the end of the first track I played (Even though I've listened to a few subsequent songs fine before it crashed). The app will then decide it doesn't want to play anything, even if I go to another playlist, try playing a new song etc.. I have to force stop the app to start the playlist again... then 5/6 songs in it'll do the same. The app is pretty much unuseable/unlistenable now, as I use it when commuting on my bike and can't just keep stopping to sort out the app (~1/2mins of effort each time).

I've experienced this on my S3 and last week I discovered a way to to avoid it happening, although to some, not a very helpful one...

I've noticed that although using Spotify in offline mode, it still whinges about being offline and i also noticed that songs cut out when something updates - even when I'm listening to music ive downloaded!?

I use my S3 with the iBolt in my car, mainly for Spotify, but for no reason my music kept stopping. For a while i found that rebooting my phone before using it in my car would help, but then it started stopping again.

Then I decided to try activating Flight Mode ... and it hasn't gotten stuck since having that activated 🙂

I have a Galaxy S4 and this happens a lot to me.

It happens less frequently than a couple of songs, but still, it's very annoying when it happens because I usually use spotify to play songs in my car, and it's annoying having to listen to the radio until I hit a red light.

I'm having similar issues with my Samsung Galaxy S4.  Once my phone goes into sleep mode it will stop playing or after an ad plays.  In order to resolve I have to go back to my playlist and hit the shuffle play button.  I also get the black screen with the 0.01 seconds left.  I'm also not running any 3rd party applications to control my power savings and I have keep Wi-fi on during sleep set to always.
