[Android] Spotify randomly pauses music

Device:

 Samsung Galaxy S5

Operating System Version:

 Android 5.0

Spotify Version:

 4.6.0.772

Description:

My playing music gets randomly in pause mode. While listening to music the playpack pauses.

It does not depend on connection (WLAN, normal Internet, no internet connection).
Audio-Output via Bluetooth, headset (Klinke) or normal via intern speaker makes no difference.

I actively have to press play again, which is really annoying.

This happens sometimes every 7 minutes, sometimes 1 time an hour.

To reproduce:

  1. Open some Player (tested with Spotify, YouTube, internal Android Music Player)
  2. Select play on track / video
  3. Wait
  4. playing gets in pause mode

Workaround:

 Select play everytime it pauses

Additional information:

Accordingly to Samsung support, this is a known bug and the issue is the spotify app.

(Samsung told me to uninstall spotify to solve this problem. no option for me, 'cause i am a premium spotify user and listen a lot via spotify)

Hey all,

Thanks for bearing with us, while this was worked on backstage.

Although not everyone has responded to us yet, many of you have confirmed this as 'fixed' since updating your app. We really appreciate you keeping us in the loop.

We're just jumping in now, to let you know we're going to close this thread up.

If you are still having the issue, it's possible this could be related to something else! Don't worry, we'd recommend checking firstly:

- Are you running any other apps in the foreground which could be causing this?

- Can you test playing in offline mode (if possible), to see that it's not paused by low bandwidth streaming?

- Have you covered all the initial trouble-shooting steps? E.g. reinstall, restart the app, check your operating system's up-to-date?

- Check you're not using your device's battery-saving mode

- Check you're not using any cache-clearing or power-saving apps

If none of these help, we'd recommend reaching out in a new thread, so that we can take a look at what the individual issue may be in more detail.

Once again, thanks for your patience as the right team looked into this 🙂

All the best,

/M

Status changed to: Under investigation

Hey guys!

Thanks for your post and report on this issue.

Our tech folks are currently looking into this thanks to feedback such as this. In the meantime, try enabling crossfade. Does that help?

Hopefully we'll have a fix with you shortly!

Description: Premium account - Problem only started after latest Spotify update. Offline playlists with Wifi turned off. Playlist stops when jumping to next track every 2 to 3 tracks. Sometimes, cursor will hang at start of track, sometimes play cursor will continue into track but sound will be muted. Pausing and unpausing will restore audio. Spotify was completely uninstalled and reinstalled, and only a few select playlists were downloaded for offline use. Problem persists.

My screen is not locked. I use my Samsung Android tablet in my car, and I always have Torque Pro running in the foreground, and Spotify open and playing in the background. I do not have any other apps running. Torque is receiving bluetooth data from my car's OBD port, and the stereo headphone jack of the Samsung tablet is plugged into my car amp so I can listen to Spotify in my car (offline).

Again, this all worked perfectly for 2 years, until the last Spotify software update.

To reproduce:

  1. Step 1 - Play playlist offline with wifi turned off
  2. Step 2 - Wait 2 or 3 tracks, and at start of next track playback will either hang, or audio will mute.
  3. ...

Workaround:

Pause playback, then unpause. Playback resumes, and/or audio returns.

Additional information: This issue has also been happening on my TiVo Roamio for the past 12 months, only the TiVo is always connected to the internet.

My TiVo Roamio has had the same exact issue for the past 12 months.

It pretty much makes Spotify on my TiVo useless when it stops playing every 2-3 songs.

Could you also investigate this issue across platforms?

Enabling crossfade on my Samsung Galaxy Tab II seems to have worked.

I am using the bare minimum of 1 second.

I have not checked it yet on my TiVo Roamio. Not sure if it's even possible on the TiVo,

but I will post here again with the result.

The same for me, Spotify 4.7.0.878, on an older Sony Xperia Ray with Cyanogenmod:

Volume output to earphone stops after (randomly) two, three, or four songs. (Cursor is going on with the next song).

Thats new since the app version update before (approx. Februar 1st 2016).

Same problem here. Very annoying too becouse I use Spotify mostly for running. I have to stop running every 3-5 minutes to pause and unpause Spotify.

I'm having the same issue, on an iPhone 6s. I've been having similar bluetooth issues lately as well, since this latest update to 5.1.0. In my car, spotify will sometimes just stop playing, or just freeze the bluetooth connection entirely. It's also happening on my UE MegaBoom. Not sure what they've changed, but SOMETHING broke.

Galaxy 5S, been fighting this issue for around six months.

I've tried uninstall/reinstall, wiping the phone, updates, everything, and nothing fixes it. I had no problems for years, and now it's causing constant interruptions.

What are you guys doing about this since it's been under investigation for 40+days? I'm about ready to change to another service since it's ruining the once-great listening experience.

Same issue here, for a couple of months now. Galaxy S5 plus sm-g901f. Premium user for about a year now, the second part of it has been with a lot of issues like this one and the one where music stops for a couple of seconds at the end of each track. I don't like your poor performance at all, it has taken way too long.
