My Question or Issue

While writing this I'm still shaking. After opening Spotify on my Android device I selected a song I would like to hear like I normally do, and pressed play. The song started to play on my phone. I clicked the 'Connect to a device' button and selected the Denon receiver. After a short delay the song starts to play on Denon receiver on MAX volume. I've never set the volume of the receiver even near max in my entire live and I instantly knew why. Apparently max volume equals instant shock and permanent ear damage. In the moment I accidentally pressed the Samsung Bixby button which made the unbearable moment even longer. Once I could stop the music and set the volume to zero I was dazedly looking around while the smell of fried electronics from my B&W speakers filled the air.

One week earlier I had a similar incident from my laptop. I was working in the living room and I've been playing music from Spotify on my receiver for a while and on a random moment the volume switched to MAX. I didn't touch Spotify or my local system audio at that time because I worked in a remote desktop session. I don't know if this is related to the Spotify Android incident but they both happened within one week time span and never before. On the Windows system it looked like the Windows volume (which was on 100%) was synced with the Spotify volume, which synced this volume to the receiver. After setting my Windows volume around 20% I had twice the 'incident' that my spotify volume jumped to a lower volume. Which I had to set higher manually.

I have no clue why this happened. I do know I don't want this ever to happen again. Please look into this issue Spotify.

@Edouard18

I expect Spotify had this issue around 2014 and it is now occurring in another form. However I do agree that the bug is dangerous and is putting the health (and hardware ._. ) of the consumers at risk. Until this bug I’d been full of praise for Spotify. I’m glad to see that Spotify has put this issue under investigation. Hopefully they will find the cause soon and resolve it. Let’s be patient for a moment.

For me the problem occurs on Spotify connect on Denon AVR  x3500H latest firmware and updates

Latest spotify app on windows 10 and android  Its hapening the latest 2 week did not have this for 2 weeks ago.

I have the same problem, spotify automatically turns up the volume to max (or at least near max) all of the sudden without me not even touching neither my phone, stereo or laptop. I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows 10 Home, my telephone is a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and my receiver is an Onkyo TX-NR646, all with the latest software updates. This only happens with Spotify, no other apps, programmes, channels, inputs.

This is ridiculous that there is ample evidence of a sudden regression within the spotify software that results in MAX volume.  We're talking about massive damages to equipment and human health here.

Spotify Team,

You have a responsibility to take action beyond the 'looking in to it'

Please confirm you have an internal bug case open on this issue that appears to impact users across the board.

At which point, myself and other users can provide all the data and logs you require to replicate the issue and resolve it as soon as possible.

You have the timeline, about 14 days ago issue started. Have you isolated the changes to your systems, applications, etc that were committed in the time before and shortly after 2 weeks from now.

Urgent attention is required from Spotify. Peter from Spotify, Please take action on the fact that this issue requires escalation from management team to accelerate engagement of the engineering team.

Requesting us to vote, words can not communicate the disgust. This is not a feature request, do realize this.

We expect frequent Technical updates from your engineering team ongoing until the issue is confirmed resolved.

Thank you,

Turtle

I have this issue on a daily occurrence. When streaming on Google speaker devices, any one or any group, the volume changes suddenly. I've noticed that the volume changes to that of one of the devices in the same WiFi group. For example, just now I picked up my phone, started using it (not Spotify specifically) but the moment when Spotify opens in the background, due to it being used on the Google home speaker downstairs, the volume changed to 0. This was the current volume that my phone had applied for media playback. It happens often and on any device in the house, sometimes on those where volume is much higher. The speakers are all Google and all devices run Android.

Edit-  moments after writing this I experienced the 100% volume error too. Another device in the house was, frustratingly, set to maximum. Luckily no permanent damage, I hope.

This volume spiking has been happening to me for a few weeks now.  I have been using Spotify on my windows PC and Galaxy S9 mobile.  Playing through Sonos speakers.

The volume spike has become quite terrifying.  I deleted the spotify apps this morning and it now wont reinstall on my PC at all.

The volume is still spiking after reinstalling the app on my mobile and I'm seriously considering swapping to another music streaming service.

I'm using spotify version 8.5.31.676 on my Galaxy S9 Android

My Question or Issue

My issue is a bit different but similar.

Without having Spotify open on my phone at all, I'll be listening to music on my Mac. I normally have the computer's volume to max while having Spotify volume to like 10% or 20%. Then, without provocation, Spotify's volume will jump to near max. This started happening about 2 weeks ago.

I started paying attention and realized that this would only happen between 11:00 pm and 1:00 am Costa Rica time (CST). I also noticed that as soon as this happens, the Spotify player "notification" would appear on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8), even though the app isn't open on my phone.

This is all the info I've been able to collect. I hope in helps to solve the issue.
