My Question or Issue

While writing this I'm still shaking. After opening Spotify on my Android device I selected a song I would like to hear like I normally do, and pressed play. The song started to play on my phone. I clicked the 'Connect to a device' button and selected the Denon receiver. After a short delay the song starts to play on Denon receiver on MAX volume. I've never set the volume of the receiver even near max in my entire live and I instantly knew why. Apparently max volume equals instant shock and permanent ear damage. In the moment I accidentally pressed the Samsung Bixby button which made the unbearable moment even longer. Once I could stop the music and set the volume to zero I was dazedly looking around while the smell of fried electronics from my B&W speakers filled the air.

One week earlier I had a similar incident from my laptop. I was working in the living room and I've been playing music from Spotify on my receiver for a while and on a random moment the volume switched to MAX. I didn't touch Spotify or my local system audio at that time because I worked in a remote desktop session. I don't know if this is related to the Spotify Android incident but they both happened within one week time span and never before. On the Windows system it looked like the Windows volume (which was on 100%) was synced with the Spotify volume, which synced this volume to the receiver. After setting my Windows volume around 20% I had twice the 'incident' that my spotify volume jumped to a lower volume. Which I had to set higher manually.

I have no clue why this happened. I do know I don't want this ever to happen again. Please look into this issue Spotify.

Had this problem last night.

Denon H1500, Sony XF900 (hdmi3 ARC), From time to time when tv is on and I’m on Home menu, or on HBO’s home menu, there comes ”message” to tv which says ”hdmi 3-> which is my ARC and tv display changes and shows ”HEOS” logo and Spotify scereen and starts playing same song with almost full volume (80). It’s nothing I have on my Spotify, can’t remember the song but quite similar to Murder on the dancefloor by Sofie Ellis-Bextor. I turn volume down fast to 30-40 and change back to home screen. It might be few minutes or days and same happens. Same song, same volume 80 and I almost s**t my pants every time. I have 3 Apple devices, Ipad and 2 IPhone xs, which all have spotify, but that song is not there, and I can’t believe they would start playing anything while spotify on them is off or current song is paused. It also started tv and reciever and blasted the music with so high volume that my ears still rings.

All apps, IOS tv software are the latest. So fed up that I’m thinking to close my Premium account.

This is certainly not fixed for me.

When playing music via connect from my Huawei P20 Pro to my Samsung HW-N850 soundbar the music starts off at a normal volume but with one press of the volume up button on my phone, the volume on my soundbar spikes hugely. This is not only potentially damaging to the hearing of my family and I, but risks blowing the speakers on my soundbar.

I have the latest firmware for my soundbar installed and I'm running v8.5.47.1006 version of the app.

Plewse advise.

Not really surprising that it isn't fixed. It's the same when changing between a computer and the mobile while playing, suddenly you're at 100% volume on the phone (I never set mine higher than around 70%, so I know). It's rediculous, just keep away from the damn main volume control, and only control your OWN max output. Like a sane protocol would.

(or better: dump Spotify Connect completely, and make it a native implementation of Google Cast instead. You know, a protocol that actually works properly)

I think I just blew my tweeters in both my speakers because after resuming playing a song via Spotify Connect from PC, it set the volume to 100%, instead of the 1/4th of the slider I previously had.
This has happened before too and it sucks that I might have two broken speakers now. I need to get them checked..

Not fixed. A major problem

This is still an issue with my setup. Using a Samsung HW-Q96R and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Latest soundbar and phone firmwares. Spotify version 8.5.66.1002.

Phone media volume is set to 0 and sound bar to 7. As soon as I increase the phone media volume one step the volume on the soundbar increases to 35.

This need to be fixed pronto! I cant use connect because if I by accident use the phone to adjust the volume, the volume spikes and soon my naighbours will kill me because of it.

It also spikes to max volume if I am playing a song on my phone on a very low volume and then connect to my speaker through the spotify-app.
The only way I can get it to work is if I ”paus” before i connect to the speaker and then only use the speakers Remote to adjust the volume.
