Android app crashes during playback

Hey folks,

We're currently investigating an issue with the Android app crashing after a few minutes of playback.

If your app is crashing immediately after opening it, we have a separate thread for that issue here - make sure to leave your info there and follow the instructions.

If your app is not crashing immediately, then make sure to follow the instructions in the status update below.

Thanks!

Hey there folks,

We really appreciate your patience while we were looking into this!

The issue initially reported in this thread should be fixed after updating to the latest version of the app, so we'll be marking this Ongoing Issue as Fixed.

However, if you're experiencing a similar issue, we'd suggest sharing it in the related Help board  along with all the relevant details of the affected device and troubleshooting steps you've tried. We'll be happy to lend a hand there and take a closer look into what's happening.

Thanks!

Spotify version 8.5.62.904

Samsung galaxy s9, android 10

42GB storage, 2.5GB Ram free

Issue first seen in last day, just after updating the app.

Latest issue at 01:15 BST, June 17TH 2020.

App closes randomly while music is playing. Usually occurs within 3 minutes of playing a song, but have seen it take upto 30 minutes. Occurs for both downloaded and streamed songs. Cleared the cache and data, but has no effect. App closes both when the phone is locked, and when it's open on screen.

  • Exact Spotify version: 8.5.62.904.
  • Device (make + model) + OS version: Huawei P-Smart (FIG-LX1), BuildNR 9.1.10.203, EMUI 9.1.0, Android 9 .
  • Available memory on device: 14.88 GB, RAM 3GB.
  • Date when you first noticed the issue; I can't remember but it's been happening for at least a month maybe 2.
  • Timestamp for the latest crash (date and time, including time zone): Around 10.00 AM 19/06/2020 MET
  • Does this happen when trying to play anything, or is it happening in a specific context within the app?: It happens when playing music (I don't know about podcasts or anything since I only use the app for the music), it just either pauses on it's own or completely shuts down the app. It's not the connection since it also happens when I playback my downloaded songs in offline mode.
  • I tried clearing the cache and reinstalling the app but it does not help.

After spending ages going through and reinstalling and chatting to someone online. The problem has started again after a few week . I understand that you need feedback. But I pay for a service to work. I don't want to keep paying for a service for me then to become a spotify test dummy. Theres clearly an issue that needs sorting. I'm guna give it another week or two before I swap over to another service.

When will this be fixed? It's very annoying!!!

Hey there @Kennysarmy and @T88,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

@Kennysarmy - you mentioned that this is happening when you're listening to podcasts. We have a different Ongoing Issue for this as stated in the status update - you can find more info here

@T88 - you mentioned that deleting the app's cache seems to help. Just to check, are you using an SD card on your device? If so, it might be a good idea giving it a go removing it to see if that helps. If it does, we'd suggest checking your SD card for errors. We'd also recommend trying a thorough reinstallation following the steps in this Spotify Answer if you haven't already.

Let us know how you get on! We'll be right here if you need more help.

Have a lovely day 🙂
