Android battery drain issue

  • Brief description of the issue:

Spotify drains battery by keeping wakelocks active and running processes in "iuv" service. (Had same problem while using Facebook's Redex in combination with minify enabled; could be something entirely different tho.)

  • Steps to reproduce the issue:
    1. Install app
    2. Download songs
    3. Play song
    4. Close app by swiping
    5. iuv eventually kicks in
  • What steps you’ve tried already:
  • Your device and operating system (e.g. Samsung Galaxy 4, 5.1.1)
    • Nexus 6P (all rooted)
      • M 6.0.1
      • N 7.0
      • N 7.1.1 beta (1 & 2)
      • N 7.1.1 custom rom with no GPlay Services
  • Type of Spotify account you have (Free/ Premium):
    • Premium
  • The app version of Spotify you’re using:
    • 7.0.0.1369
  • Temporary solution

Force quit the app. Greenify does not help. Servicely (Francisco Franco's) does help partially.

Hi @diareuse, thanks for writing on the Community!

Can you let us know if this issue started after a specific update or event? Does this happen with other apps or only with Spotify?

Keep us posted.

Hey @JuanSebastian.

I think it was around since I've joined, 'cause I remember 6hrs SOT before I started to use Spotify. Other apps have it's services too, but this one does not respect doze and any other app managing it's battery consumption. Only thing killing battery more is the Media Player, which is absolutely acceptable.

Nothing more is waking the device as much as "iuv". And what is extremely odd, it somehow manages to wake the device even though it's force closed now.

I would love to send you any logs; try any apk, just to get the 6hrs mark back 🙂

I will, of course, keep you up to date with any new findings.

Okay, so I figured, that does not matter what you do, "iuv" will kick in once you start playback.

What does not trigger "iuv":

Downloading songs

Mode in which you start playback (offline or nah)

Starting app itself

What does trigger "iuv" 100%:

Starting playback ! - starting alongside AudioMix

My app's settings:

What's on:

  • Offline mode (sometimes nah)
  • 4s crossfade
  • Gapless
  • Normalize Volume
  • I don't use streaming, however it's on Automatic Quality
  • Download: Normal Quality
  • EQ turned on
    • Nike-shape-like mirrored preset
    • No Bass boost
    • No Surround sound

Everything else is off.

@JuanSebastian

After latest update (7.0.0.1371) was "iuv" renamed to "iup" with the exact same effect.

It starts with AudioMix as well.

The wakelock is still present, except it's name is now "irn". It's still on even if playback is stopped long time ago.

TL;DW:

It's all the same behavior as the one reported in post #1 except it's name is now "irn".

Since this issue was reported I've never turned offline mode off and did not change any settings.
