App crashing for iOS free users when trying to connect to Bluetooth

We've received reports that iOS users of free accounts are experiencing app crashing when they try to connect their device to their AirPods via Bluetooth.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We're happy to announce that this should now be fixed for everyone - just make sure you're running the latest version of Spotify.

If you're still having trouble, you can post a new thread in the relevant Help board here.

Cheers 🤘

Try to play from the bottom bar, without opening the full screen player. I found out it crashes even when I don’t touch anything. Opened full screen player is enough to crash and you don’t even need to be in-app for it to happen, just like you said.

When I play by the bottom bar (minimized playback), it’s all fine.

I think we have two slightly different problems, to me the spotify app just crashes, the player buttons aren’t the reason of this issue, they work just fine.

However yesterday afternoon it started working fine again so I think it was a server-based problem, although I am disappointed with spotify and the community that has given me no explanation

Hi,

I've also updated my iOS to 15.7.7., then did clean installs, but Spotify still crashes with podcasts...

Same issue here. iPhone 14, iOS 16.5.1 and Spotify 8.8.5.0. I start playing something on Spotify while having my AirPods connected, I put my phone away and after about 10 seconds Spotify crashes.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your posts.

Can you try logging in with another account on your phone? You can ask a friend/ family member to log in with theirs, or create a free account for test purposes.

Our tech teams are aware of this issue and are working on a fix, but we can't say for sure when this will be fixed.

Cheers.

Many of my friends and I have the same problem.
On reopening the app is back to the track and position at which the app was open in the foreground for the last time.

Same here, iPhone 13, iOS 16.5.1. Every time I play music, my phone starts to overheat, and the app crashes. Other apps work fine so I guess it's not my phone's problem. And when I charge the phone and play music at the same time, iPhone gets very hot, the notification about "overheating" comes up and it stops charging. Really annoying since I'm used to listening to music every day.

I’m in the US on iOS 16.5.1, same version of Spotify. I bet the new Spotify is meant to run on 16. Kind of short sighted of the company if 16 isn’t available everywhere….

Yes you are right, the phone will be getting really hot and it consumes a lot of battery.

I'm not sure if they rolled out a patch, but today everything was working as expected.
