App crashing, lagging and battery overheating on iOS devices

We've received reports from iOS users about the app getting progressively slower after opening until it eventually crashes after a couple of minutes of use.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We're happy to announce that this should now be fixed for everyone 😎 Just make sure you're running the latest version of Spotify.

If you're still having trouble, you can post a new thread in the relevant Help board here.

Cheers 💚

I have the exact same problem since a couple of weeks. Must have been since it automatically updated the app. Spotify went from running 100% smoothly to be completely unusable overnight.

Same issue on all my 3 iOS devices (iPhone 7/iPod Touch 6th gen on iOS 15 and SE 2020 on iOS 18).

Entering any artist page makes the app go slowly unresponsive, making the device overheat very fast and draining battery like crazy.

When using just album and playlist pages it's almost decent but as soon as i try to open the now playing page the same behaviour as opening an artist page starts happening.

This happens with and without other apps running in the background, already did a full/clean reinstall of the app. Tried with background app refresh turned on or off, same results

@Yordan Update 6th of June, 2024

Version: 8.9.62.465

I downloaded the update yesterday, and so far the app is MUCH more stable. I’ve had no crashes so far and battery is also fine. It still lags a bit when browsing my artists, but it is nowhere near as bad as it was before.

Thank you for handling the issue!

@Yordan thank you, I have just updated the app and for now it seems to run fine. Might be a little more glitchy than it used to be while browsing the artists pages but it's not that noticeable. No battery drain and the phone doesn't overheat. Hopefully it stays this way

Hi, it’s happening to my app multiple times throughout the day. I keep having to turn my phone on and off, as the phone overheats, the app crashes, songs get stuck and more than one song will play at the same time. When I get back in to the app, it’s slow to scroll and will kick me out often. I haven’t got a video, but I can confirm I am not usually using other apps or the phone when this happens. Version - 8.9.60.458. I’m not very technical and I’m worried clearing the cache or reinstalling will delete my playlists so I’ve followed the advice and turned off the background refresh but the app kicked me back out within 2minutes of doing it.

@Nicckj go to AppStore and update it to the latest version (8.9.62.465), it should be fixed
