Can't Play Downloaded Songs When Offline

We're getting reports that downloaded songs are not playing when the app is not connected to the internet. The offline songs are grayed out but shows that they are downloaded. When connected back to the internet, same songs can be played without issues and still appear downloaded.

Hey,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.

We wanted to announce that this issue has been fixed from our end. However, keep in mind you might experience some inconveniences with your offline content that are caused by other things such as:

  • The use of cache clearing apps/settings - these could interfere with the app's normal functions.
  • Storage issues - your device needs to have at least 1GB of free storage in order for Spotify to function correctly.
  • SD card issues - if you're using one, make sure to check out this FAQ.
  • Outdated app - not running the latest app version available can also cause performance issues. Check how to update the app in this Support article.
  • Having more than 5 devices with downloaded music - you can remove older devices by following the steps you'll find in this Support article
  • Not going online at least once in 30 days - your downloads might be removed because of this.
  • The content being removed from Spotify - the downloads will also be removed.

If you're still having trouble after checking all of the above, make sure to start a new thread in the relevant Help Board.

Hi.

I have the same issue. I can't play downloaded music offline and I have a premium account. Recently, 3 updates have passed in the app and the problem remains.

I've already done all of the suggested fix online such as clearing cache, redownloading the songs/playlists, doing a clean install/reinstall of the app, and making sure that the "Offline Mode" is switched On and nothing.

This honestly gets tiring. And I'm sorry but I don't think there's still a point on continuing my subscription as the app is not working as promised and I'm not getting my money's worth. So, please, help.

When activating offline mode or going offline, my downloaded playlists become unavailable songs and when I try to play them, Spotify says "this song is not available"
I already tried many times to log out of the account, clear cache, uninstall and install the application again and delete the data but nothing works

Hi guys!

I may have found some sort of solution.

I had the same issue since changing my plan from individual to Family Plan three weeks ago.

I was so mad I couldn't use what I was paying for, that I started to experiment with past versions of the app. I basically Downloaded past APK-s, and recreated the issue in every version. I managed to find one that works for now!!!

The version is this:

Spotify-8-5-71-723

The interface is obviously a bit older, but no issue this far with offline music and podcast listening. Hope this helps some of you!

I have a OnePlus Nord 2 Phone, Android version 12.

All is greyed out when no mobile data is available. Switching on, all green tags are back.
Steps done without success:

  1. From the Android home screen, tap Settings > Apps.
  2. Find Spotify in your list of apps and tap on it.
  3. Select Storage & Cache.
  4. Select Clear Storage.
  5. Once done, go back and select Uninstall.
  6. Open a File Manager and navigate to Internal Storage\Android\data.
  7. If you see a folder called com.spotify.music delete it.
  8. Once all this is done, restart your device.
  9. Open the Google Play Store and install Spotify from there.

Same Issue here !

  1. Galaxy A52 5G / One UI 5.1
  2. Spotify 8.8.14.575
  3. FRANCE
  4. Reinstallation with same Issue
  5. Since march 6 2023

Well, I've been having this problem for a year - and nobody has fixed it, so I might have to migrate my whole family to Apple Music.

I did all the things above - and it was useless. I even upgraded my iPhone X to a brand-new iPhone 14.  The ONLY thing that worked, and still works is remembering to log on to Spotify before I lose the internet. Then all my music is maintained. And by the internet - it needed to be 4G or 5G. Even the 4 bars of 3G I get at my home isn't enough. If my phone shuts down because it has no battery, I have to walk a kilometre until I get a 4G signal.

My Spotify is version 8.8.14.607 (premium) and as I say, I have an iPhone 14.

Status changed to: Need more info

Hey folks,

Thank you for taking the time to share the details we've requested.

The team investigating this has had some trouble re-creating the issue on their end and in order to identify the root cause they need the exact conditions when this is happening, so in addition to the previous info:

  • Make/model of the device and OS version
  • Spotify version number

can you please also provide the following:

  • What type of content you have downloaded (albums/playlists/podcasts) and where are you accessing it from (Home/Your Library/Search)
  • Are you saving the offline content to your phone's internal storage or to an SD card?
  • Are the track rows displaying a download badge, with the track row greyed out, and the app displaying the “You’re currently offline” banner?

  • In which of the following scenarios does the issue occur?
    • After you've switched to a different subscription
    • After restarting the app while in Offline mode
    • When trying to access the offline playlists in a country different than the one they were downloaded in
    • None of the above (please share your thoughts if you've noticed a particular pattern and provide the steps to reproduce it)

Not possible to play offline songs.

iOS 16.3.1
SPotify: 8.8.15.609
Device: iPhone 12 Pro

Problem: it is not possible to play downloaded songs (in app) without internet even though I have active premium account. Another family member is able to play songs without problem on an Android phone with the latest Spotify. It does not work only when the Spotify app is opened without internet connection at the fresh start.

All downloaded songs are greyed out and I am only able to click on Play button - screenshot shows the state once the button is clicked.

The affected account was moved from individual premium to family premium in recent time.

Tried: app reinstall, phone restart, phone update, app re-log, app cache deletion.
