Can't start audio error during startup on Windows 10

Status: Case Closed
0 Likes

One in three times Spotify app can't start throwing an error (see screenshot) on my HP Elite X3 running Windows 10 Fall Edition. Restarting the app never helps (albeit suggested). The only "fix" is restarting the OS. No other apps appear affected ie can play music with Groove, Next Player, etc

Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Regards,

Dan

Hey @Dan_Oz, welcome to the Community!

How long has this issue been happening for? Also, what Spotify version are you using? If you haven't already done so, try reinstalling the app following these steps.

Let us know how it goes.

Dan_Oz
Spotify version is 5.2.4.0.

Having this issue past couple of months or so. It coincides with Win 10 Fall edition update but not sure it's related.

Tried un-re-installing but no difference.

Thanks for the info.

Keep in mind that we don't officially support Spotify on Windows Phones but we'll keep helping out.

Can you give us the exact steps you're taking to recreate this issue? Also, when you restart your device, how long does it take for the issue to reoccur?

We'll be right here waiting for your reply.

I understand you're not supporting Windows phones but using this app isn't my choice either. Microsoft kind of forced it on me by retiring Groove and transfering content/subscription on this so here we are (trust me I'm looking hard to find an alternative).

Now back to the issue, I'm not able to consistently make it start failing but once it locks audio, it stays that way until the phone's OS is restarted. It comes back fairly quickly in a day or two after that.

If I may speculate a bit, it appears to me that if the app stays overnight as suspended (in background) forcing OS to kill it next day, after that if bluetooth headphones are connected before Spotify is started again, very likely this error will happen.

Thanks for getting back to us.

Try closing the app when you're not using so it doesn't sit idle in the background. If you have the same issue when you go to use the app again, we'll know this isn't the cause.

Also, just to be completely sure, does this only happen when you try to listen with a Bluetooth headset?

Let us know.
