[CarPlay] - Random Songs playing on My Liked Songs

My Question or Issue

I never had this issue before, it started today whilst I was in town getting groceries. After I jumped back into my car I wanted to listen to Spotify again. Like I always do. So I selected the Spotify CarPlay app via the touchscreen of my car, navigated to "Your library" and then tapped onto "Songs, which I like" (or however it is called since the new update). 

 

After I did that, I tapped onto the first song in the list. But then Spotify started to play another song, seemingly random. I then scrolled through the list on the touchscreen in my car, and tapped onto different songs, to see if the problem persists. And yes, the problem is still there. No matter which song I would choose on the touchscreen of my car, Spotify would play some other song. 

 

Shuffle is definitely turned off, that can't be the issue. I then restarted Spotify, my phone and my car. The problem persists. If I search through my Spotify songs on my pc, iPad or iPhone itself, no problems. The song that I tap on is played without problems. But with CarPlay it's not working. It just plays a random song, just like Spotify changed the order of my favorite songs solely for CarPlay. 

 

This is really really frustrating, because if I have to use my phone to select the song that I want to hear, it defeats the purpose of CarPlay, which is a very important feature for me.

 

The problem started to happen today, never had it beforehand. I hope that you can either fix it, or help me solve it.

Hi Lokapix, 

 

I want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly here. Is Spotify playing a new song after the song you've chose, or you tap a song and it plays another instead? 

 

Does this only happen with the "Liked Songs" playlist?

I tap on a song and it plays a different one instead. 

 

As far as I tested it only happens with the "Liked Songs" playlist, yes. And today is the first day that it happened, never had this problem before.

Weird, I've never heard of this problem before. Does it play the same song or is it a different one each time?

I am also experiencing this issue. Each time I select a song from the CarPlay screen, it plays a random song in my playlist. When I try to select another song, it changes to another random song. The only time this issue does not occur is when I select manually using my phone, which defeats the purpose of CarPlay.

Exactly the same for me. The problem is known already, the last time that many users had this problem was in early 2017. Since then they fixed it, but I guess they broke it again. 

 

Not sure how to handle it at this moment, because not being able to choose the songs via the cars touchscreen completely defeats the purpose of CarPlay, just like kjangaroo said. 

 

I really hope that Spotify is going to address this issue.

Hi guys,

 

I also started having this issue not too long ago (Maybe like a week or so ago). I’ve spoken to Spotify via direct message on Twitter and unfortunately they weren’t able to resolve my issue. 

 

I’ve deleted/reinstallled the application, I’ve even wiped my entire phone including settings but this hasn’t fixed the issue either. I’ve also reset my radio which has had no affect either. It really is frustrating that this is happening and nothing seems to be getting done about it. 

 

Currently, my workaround is adding everything into a giant playlist as whatever song I select in my playlist, plays without any issues. But it’s annoying having to constantly scroll down to the last song to get to my most recently added song

Could you try updating to the latest version of the Spotify app on iOS and let us know if that fixes this issue for you?
