[Connect] Can't play songs saved to Your Library on Connect devices

Hey folks,

We’re receiving reports that it's not possible to play certain songs on Connect devices.

First, we'd recommend trying a clean reinstall of the app on your device by following the steps here.

If after that you’re still experiencing the issue, could you provide us with the following info:

  • device you're connecting from + OS version
  • exact Spotify version
  • external device you're connecting to + version
  • which songs is this happening with?

Once we have that, we will pass it on to the relevant team, who will look further into it.

Thanks! Keep us posted 🙂

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We’re happy to say that this should now be fixed for everyone!

Make sure you to perform a clean reinstall of the app to ensure the changes are reflected in the app.

Thanks!

I have the problem - it appeared fairly recently after months (or years?) of working fine on my home network. I've tried a clean install a few times: that cures the problem at first but only for a short while and the problem reappears (and is undesirable as I have to manually download every album and playlist in my entire library every time!)

The info you request:

- Samsung Galaxy S7 edge - Android 7.0 which is the current automatic update [but I have replicated the problem on an old phone (not sure of model) with a clean install and on the downloaded player on my PC

- Spotify version 8.5.23.686 - current automatic update

- Occurs for connections to any of 3 Sonos devices and 2 Amazon devices (an Echo and a Dot) on my home network

- An additional point: there appears to be an initial connection of sorts in that the Sonos app shows a new connection from Spotify and the Amazon devices make a noise suggesting they've been connected to. But the Spotify App continues to show "connecting" and it is not possible to control the device from the Spotify app.

Problem occurs from Albums in my Library and I can work around the problem by using "Go To Album", playing the album and then making the connection to the device. But that's labourious, and I think intermittent. And confusing as the two views of the album are difficult to distinguish (it's always confused me having two different views of albums, each with a different set of options).

Sonos Beam, several Alexa Dots, Macs running 10.13, android Moto G5+, pixel 3a. None of them are working without the weird workaround in this thread. https://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/Spotify-connect-stuck-on-connecting-when-playing-albums/td-...

Just started yesterday.

  • device you're connecting from + OS version

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime, Android 6.0.1

  • exact Spotify version

8.5.23.686

  • external device you're connecting to + version

3 different Chromecast Audio devices, plus a Google Home Mini, either on their own or in Google Home groups

  • which songs is this happening with?

All songs on Bebo Valdes Lagrimas Negras. I can play from a playlist, but not from the album.

Experiencing the same issue.

Phone is a Pixel 3a running Android 10.

Version is 8.5.23.686.

Trying to connect to Google Home.

All songs from my library are not working - not possible to connect.

When I establish a connection through another song (via search e.g.) and then try to play one from my library the "your account is in use on another device" error message appears and the connection is lost.

p.s. I wish Spotify put real information in the update notes on the Play Store. It's arrogant of you to think this is beyond your (paying!) users to understand.

I can't cast any songs from my library. I can get it working again for a while by doing logout, clear offline devices and login again. v686 here as well. Doesn't seem to be related to the app to me, rather seems to be a server side issue.

Talked to Spotify support on Facebook and I must say I honestly believe there's a chat bot answering me as i I just keep getting "have you turned it off and on again?'.

This is not exactly the first time Spotify Chromecast support has been flakey, but it's certainly a lot worse than it has ever been.

Flaky would be an understatement. Now it's effectively broken.

Have this issue happening with both my Bluesound Node and Chromecast Audio devices.

  • device you're connecting from + OS version
    • Samsung Tab S5e running Anrdoid 9 (4.9.112)
  • exact Spotify version
    • Spotify8.5.23.686
  • external device you're connecting to + version
    • Bluesound Node v1
  • which songs is this happening with?
    • Albums saved in my library (but not downloaded). Not sure if downloaded albums can play since I don't download them

Same problem here:

Device Galaxy S8, Android 9 with July, 1st security patch

Spotify version 8.5.23.686

External device Chromecast audio

Subscription Premium Family

Any resetting and/or re-installing did not change anything. Other device with Android 4.1 still works fine.
