Connect only plays 100 song chunks of playlists

Device:

 Windows

Operating System Version:

Win 7

Spotify Version:

10.21.143.g76c19bcd

Description:

When I play music over connect the remote computer only seems to have access to the 100 subsequent songs from the song I start playing from. For example, if have a playlist of songs from 1:200 and start playing song 1, then press the previous song button instead of playing song 200 it plays song 100. Subsequent presses of the previous song button play tracks 99,98,97... etc. The same issue appears to occur if I have shuffle turned on.

To reproduce:

  1. Play music over spotify connect

Workaround:

 N/A

Additional information:

Occurs both with computer to computer play as well as phone to computer play.

Only occurs when the playlist is started on the "remote" device. For example, if I want to control my computer via my phone, the bug does NOT occur if I double click a song on my computer and then control everything from my phone. If, however, I open up my phone and select my computer as a remote device and then begin to play music via the phone, the error occurs.

I feel like the shuffle function is absolute**bleep**. I will have a playlist with 100 songs, only 4 of them by a specific artist, and it will play those 4 songs directly one after each other. It is growing increasingly more frustrating.

Sincerely (and excuse me for the word) shuffle sucks, you finish listening the same songs, the only way I can listen not listened songs is when I listen music for a longtime (traveling for example), I have lists with hundreds of songs and I have tried all kind os suggestions (reinstall the app, order by different options, jump to a not played song and activate shuffle) and at the end, I finish listening the SAME songs I always do. My suggestion: start by not played songs and then index by the ones played less times or design a new algorithm, but please do something .....

This has been going on since 2016 and I have tried to find this known issue. This is something that should have been fixed by now.

Isn't there some beauty in the fact that an app that is obviously coded by monkeys still is the greatest music service on the planet -- instead of, as one would expect, the worst?

Anyway, by experience, we should drop the expectation that anything anyone complains about in the Spotify forums ever will get fixed.

At least, after having complained, don't we feel better, even if nothing ever gets fixed around here?

I don't know if this ever was fixed, but if it was, it's broken again. I have a playlist with somewhere between 400 and 500 songs, but shuffle never seems to get to the majority of the songs.

I've heard elsewhere people complaining that it only shuffles the first 100 songs. Somewhere else, people claimed it was the first 160 songs. Others suggest that only songs that are deemed popular get played when shuffling, while obscure deep cuts never play.

I saw a suggestion by one person that I could move a chunk of the songs at the end of the list to the front of the list every-so-often so that I can force some variety.

In Python, in one line of code, you can create a list of integers from 1 to n, and shuffle them into a new list. If the original list represents the index of songs in a playlist, then the shuffled list specifies the order in which to play those songs.

Start there... then make it more sophisticated as needed.  For example if there is a large enough variety of artists in a list, ensure that no songs by the same artist are played consecutively.

Even regular playback of an album (audio book) with more than 100 tracks is broken on Android. Only the first 100 tracks can be played. Playback simply stops after track 100. Manually starting one of the further tracks simply doesn't do anything.

I still get way to non-random chunks of recurring music. When i have 100s of songs in a playlist it tends to repeat the same 20 or so.. even though i downloaded them all.

I am also having this issue. I haven't counted the songs, but it seems like it's cycling through less than 100 of them.

I am using Spotify on my 2015 Macbook to play music on my Yamaha TSR-5830 receiver via Spotify Connect.

Another weird thing I noticed, is that if I scroll all the way down to the bottom of my "Liked Songs", click play on one of the last 10, shuffle, keep hitting the "Next" button, then it will only cycle through the last 19 songs of my playlist. If I repeat, but start with a song a bit above the last 19 songs, then it will cycle through the ~50 last songs in the playlist.

As a long time Spotify Premium subscriber I would really appreciate a fix for this issue ASAP. With the current quarantine situation, I am almost exclusively using Spotify Connect to play music on my receiver.
