Connecting to spotify.... in Android Notification

My Question or Issue

 Since the latest update, I get the message in the notification bar "Connecting to spotify" (sorry, living in germany, hopefully I've translated correct) 

This is new for me. The app is closed, so why is such an active reminder there?

This has happened to me as well.

Is it anything to do with the new connection with Google Maps or with the existing connection with Waze?

I too am having this issue. Maybe it's a Pixel specific issue? I see you're using a P2XL. Same setup as you, just on the older Pixel. Only started today. Weird...

Also having this problem. Forced stopped the app, restarted the phone, and cleared the cache. Still getting the notification while app is closed and running

Also started to get these notifications since the last update on my android phone. Every few seconds it will pop up with a "Connecting to Spotify" and a few seconds later it disappears. Its getting rather annoying as the app is not open or running. For example, I've had it pop up at least 20 times just typing this message ☹️

Same here for Galaxy Note 8. Oreo. Spotify 8.4.78.530

Same here, Galaxy S9+ stock Oreo. It popup every 5/10 seconds and disappear after a couple of seconds. App version 8.4.78.530. Fortunately seems it doesn't cause any particular battery drain.
