Connection issues with car stereo receivers

Hi everyone,

We've received reports about car receivers (mainly Pioneer) having connectivity issues. Bluetooth connection usually works fine, but when trying to use Connect it fails.

The team in charge is already looking into this, so we've merged a few threads here to keep you all in the loop.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your reports so far.

We can confirm that support for Pioneer and JVC-Kenwood car audio head units has been deprecated. This means it will no longer be possible to launch the built-in Spotify app from the interface, but you should still be able to play audio from your mobile devices via Bluetooth or through a USB cable.

Thanks for understanding.

I've come to the conclusion, speaking to Spotify customer service is nor more use than talking to a service bot.

so reiterated the same thing as before.

HI John

I don't know what your email was in response to, as I've had a lot of communication with various people since discovering that Spotify have made Spotify Connect obsolete, and rendering all car stereos that used it, utterly useless in this regard.

Your website also states all the wonderful ways you can connect to your car using Spotify:

Hence, if your response is to my email I sent earlier this morning to this support email address, then I'm afraid there is still complete mis-information on your website leading to false advertising and sales of goods worldwide, and consequently consumers like myself being out of pocket, solely down to what Spotify have done in recent months.

The real irony of the situation, is that had the "car thing" been for sale here in Australia (or anywhere, for that matter - as it's only for sale in the USA, and even there you can't get it because Spotify can't supply the quantities needed), I probably would have bought one.  However, it's not available, I can't buy one, and now that Spotify have done this underhanded culling of all car stereos that used Spotify Connect, I don't feel inclined to even look at putting more money into a product which Spotify might deem obsolete in a years time and not tell anyone about that either!

Thanks

Here's my thing. If all I was gonna do was use the Bluetooth function, I could have bought a $200 radio and said the **bleep** with all the fancy **bleep**. But I chose to go bigger and better. But my thing is why should pioneer have to refund my $600 when it's Spotify that should pay. If anyone goes lawsuit. I'm in. I'm tired of companies screwing people and then just acting like oh sorry. Thanks for using Spotify. Glad I never paid a dime for their service. Almost did. But dodged a bullet on that one.

They obviously want that people go back to looking at and tapping on their phones while driving. That's some community service right there. Or spend $90 on something their car already could do. No wait, it's not even available here. I'm now waiting that the app tells me that (for techical reasons) it MUST to be updated. Nicely done @MafeG @Yordan

I think it's clear Spotify Community moderators also ignored this move. That's why they had this, ehem, "investigation" going on until they found out it was Spotify themselves who stealthily did this.

Dear Sir,
Thanks for your enquiry...
Yes Spotify have ended support for this great feature unfortunately. Sadly, we are unable to remedy this ourselves. Sorry we couldn't be of more help with this one...

There ya go. The End 😞

I found this today after wondering why my car radio suddenly stopped working. Not being able to control spotify with physical buttons in the car is a huge downgrade.
I guess this is because of the Car thing? If so dropping support for car radios everywhere for a US only product is a terrible decision

Thank you spotify and @MafeG  about true what really happend .... 😡

What ????? This feature is in the app.... Just keep it ?!?!? What os the real reason you have stop this ? This is a great feature for to use your app, a big ++++ for your app that other app do not have this fonction ! This very sad new and I want to understand what is your reason to stop this !

JJSTRK

@MaitreTeTe The reason is them wanting to sell their new Car Thing, only available in the US.

So this means for now keep the old version and then cancel the plan and move to a new streaming service..

Can anyone help me about the following:

Is there a way to have all android apps updated automatically, except for Spotify?

When I disable auto updates, I have to update all apps manually, which sucks for a workaround currently..
