Crossfade option isn't working on the desktop app.

We've received reports that the Crossfade feature isn't working correctly on the desktop app. No matter how many seconds are being added, it won't work and after returning to the settings page, it's set to a random amount of seconds.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We’re happy to inform you that this should now be fixed! Just make sure your app is updated to the latest version.

If you still don't see the change, try the following:

  1. Open Spotify, turn the Crossfade off and then restart Spotify.
  2. Turn the Crossfader back on and change the value.

If you're still having trouble, make sure to post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks!

In the interim (I'm sure they'll fix this when they figure it out), I have
found that if I set cross fade to 12, then toggle cross fade off and back
on again, that it stays at 12 seconds. No other setting works, in my brief
experiment. Alternately, it may also have to do with the fact that my last
setting before the update that broke it was 12 seconds. So, maybe going
with your last setting before it happened might work. At any rate, I got it
to work for now, if only barely.

Thank you I will try this! I’m teaching tonight at 6:45pm so stay tuned…

Crossfade suddenly stopped working on playlists and albums on the desktop app for MacOS. Every time it is reset to 5 seconds, the crossfade doesn't work and when advanced settings is re-entered, it has reverted back to a random number.

@RadioD-Ave the 12 second thing works for me too! Better than nothing that's for sure.

Alternately, people say the mobile app still has a working crossfade.

Thanks for posting, everyone! I'm having the exact same issues as all who have posted.

1) I've logged out and logged in.

2) I've rebooted my machine.

3) I've re-installed Spotify

4) I've done a clean re-install of Spotify

5) I was granted access by Spotify Customer Services and still had the problem both within the test account and once I logged back in to my account

6) Issue doesn't exist on mobile

7) Here's what I'm using:

16-inch 2019 MacBookPro. MacOS Catalina, Version 10.15.7.

Spotify for MacOS (Intel) 1.1.79.763.gc2965cdf

but have you tried this?....
Set Xfade to 12. Toggle off and back on. Hit play. It works for me on
Windows, for the same problem; but oddly, only at 12 seconds. You try
another number, it breaks. This is an obvious bug. I think they'll fix it
soon, even though that surely isn't so obvious.

Hey guys, just a heads up, if up until the time it gets fixed, you're REALLY dying to get some crossfade?

I believe it still works at the 12 second setting only. Any other time won't work, but, if you want a crossfade that's stretched out ridiculously long, 12 seconds seems to work.
