My Question or Issue

The local files scan seems to be broken (again) on the Spotify Windows desktop app (so not the Microsoft store version, the version downloaded from the Spotify website).

I tried to add some new local files a few hours ago and it wouldn't work so I removed the local-files.bnk file because I found countless messages on this forum mentioning this exact problem with this solution. However that did not work and worse, some files went missing in the process after the fresh scan.

So I completely uninstalled Spotify and reinstalled it from the website. Everything worked, however, after waiting for it to finish updating the local files, a new version was download by the client. So I installed it and... the same local files disappeared again. So I guess something is crashing regarding local files indexing in the latest version (1.1.46.916.g416cacf1) while it was not in the version still delivered from the website (1.1.45.621.gdddebadc).

However that is not the first time I encounter this kind of problem (and it seems that a lot of people encounters them periodically, judging from the messages here) and it's sad to see that something as simple as files indexing (which should be the basics for a music player) gets broken so often on a stable release channel 😕 . Not being able to merge the local files with the online ones is starting to become really annoying...

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We’re happy to say that this should now be fixed for everyone with the latest version of the app! Just make sure your app is updated.

If you're still having trouble, make sure to post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks!

The trouble happens with version 1.1.46.916.g416cacf1 for Windows 10 Pro in my case, downloaded for the Spotify website.

It's the version that updated a few days ago. The songs had been working fine before that for a good couple months.

Strange, 1.1.45.621.gdddebadc is the one that works fine for me, but 1.1.46.916.g416cacf1 does not work (like others reported). But if you say the version updated a few days ago maybe the version changed, did you just check the version number right now on the app?

Experiencing this exact issue as described by the original poster. Encountered it prior, did a fresh reinstall of Spotify from the download version available on the website, then after an update a few days later the indexed files were gone agian.

Windows 10 PC

Spotify version 1.1.46.916.g416cacf1

Unable to verify if this happens on MS store version of the app at this time

Hey,

Same issue as everyone here, any song with a Japanese character will no longer show in local files after the most recent update.

I'm using:

  • Windows 10
  • Version 1.1.46.916.g416cacf1
  • Client downloaded from Spotify website

Tried grabbing an older version like people suggested but they all seem to be the same bugged version now 😞

Guess I've gotta wait for a patch...

Yup I have the same problem with Japanese characters also, sometimes I wonder why I even pay the 10€ a month for this kind of subpar service 😕

As a work around you can try to rename the files using only the standard Latin alphabet without accent and special characters.

Thanks! We’ll keep you posted and let you know as soon as we have any updates on this.

Looks like the japanese and the chinese songs cannot get recognized by spotify and those song cannot detect from the files so all the song got downloaded in the past got gray out. I am really frustrated now cause most of my list is downloaded from the internet.
